Gator Grip vs Hydro Turf

Please when purchasing a product. besides the quality, the support of our Fellow Riders. HT sponsor so many WORLD wide and Events !

something to think about !

Thank you. :purr:

I think you're a little off base here. No one is telling you that you must support HT, but at the same time they do alot for the sport aspect of watercraft (racers, freeride competitors, etc) that in turn helps the recreational side of things (guys like you who do not compete, attend races, just ride for fun).

The support they have shown has helped at the very least to keep the sport from declining and at best to provide the venues and opportunities to show the world of watercraft to people who might not have otherwise seen it.

But what does this mean to you? Look at it like this...the more people who ride, attend events, buy HT and other products the more they can produce and overall the lower price that these companies that already give so much can offer for their products.

So just because you don't have a huge event in your backyard doesn't really mean there is no benefit for you...its just a slightly more abstract concept for you than for people more involved with the sport side of riding water scooters...

Alabama strikes again....

Hydro Turf is a great company that sells a quality product that is made in the USA. They also support our sport like no other company I can think of. Pretty much every Freeride comp or Freeride event they have sponsored and or made possible.

To some guy from Alabama who just buys stuff to brag about how much he spends and can't ride, that probably doesn't mean much.

To real riders who love freeride and the sport it means a lot...

is there ANY company that sponsors as much as they do???????

lol...armour all works good too:highhorse:

Anyone else see the common thread here?

I stand behind my original statement. support those that support us. :headbang:

I knew someone that put gatorgrip on a ski back in the 90s. It looked really cool (red), but didn't last for :):):):).

I don't know how they are now, but I have no complaints about ht.

HT for the win. I'd sport GG if I had an old Kawi 440 maybe. HT has always been good to me. Got my first tray mat kit and 25mm pad for $0.00 direct from HT when they were looking for riders to test the thick pad. They always give a discount, and always throw in glue and brushes for free if I ask. :Banane19:

Did someone call for me? Hi Cliff! How you been? Things are ok up here, I have my own drama to attend to.

My opinions as if it matters, is that HT is a good product considering it is just about the easiest to get ahold of. I like the different color options they have as well as the ribbed, waffle, and diamond patterns.

I do agree they are expensive. I also agree with Steve that is doesn't mean a hill of beans to me how much they give back to free rides, events, ect... because I don't go to them either.

The shipping is a bit expensive but that seems to be the case with everything. UPS raped me so bad on my last eBay parts selling run I vowed not to sell anything ever again.

As for quality... I have seen plenty of threads about faded HT. I had an old set of dark blue on an X2 that sat outside after it blew up for a few years. Granted it saw daylight every day uncovered but it still faded. Then it turned to dust as it crumbled away.

Now Gator Grip... their paterns and colors are lacking compared to HT. Also from what I saw on YZ's B! the cobble stones started peeling off. but those turf jobs were probably older and the skis probably sat outside some too.

It appears to be more expensive too. That is about all I can really say.

So Mr. Williams, I hope that is an informed opinion from a HT purchasing customer. Just wait until they start doing velcro on the mats so you can change your colors out once a year! I said it first!

YZ, you got to know by now that some people are ALWAYS right no matter what evidence you provide to the debate/arguement. I am surprised at myself I even got back on here this week. It is nice not having stupid internet drama in my life. I have found there are two types of things in life, MP's and YP's. That is MY Problems and Your Problems. I will stick to my problems and everyone else will just have to deal with their "Your Problems." I don't need any more problems, I have enough of my own...

I really dig the velcro turf install idea!!!

you just typed an entire page and didnt say :):):):)!

here are your points that you provided:

1. hydroturf fades after years of sitting in the sun uncovered. Gator grip might as well...mmm, ok

2. You dont sell parts because you dont like to pay for shipping

3. You think it doesnt matter which companys support our riders and our sport....well, that tells me that you really dont care that much about it in the first place!!!

4. and that last statement looks like it was written by Suzi Q!

okay I have ACTUALLY INSTALLED BOTH!!!! Hooray me!

gg is a bit softer to the touch as you know ht mellows over a few rides.

gg I feel is a tiny bit slipperier, but I have never slipped out of the tray. its fine.

gg DOES NOT heat up and stretch out like ht does! I think the backing has some kind of woven cloth in it or the density of it when pressed in the making of it makes the back very tough.

in most other way they are similar enough that it is a waste to compare. they are nearly the same. so whatever.

gg has the cool 2-tone thing going which works for you or doesn't.

ht makes more colors and has camo for the custom blend.

to me as in most things it boils down to personal preference. I like ht and like to help those that help me. however indirectly. its even enough for me that they just like standups or blaster or just ride one. they are part of our family. we help family nuff said.

gator grip is a good product and if you have a red and black ski it might be a better choice for you as far as looks. sometimes we just need to be different. whatever works for you. its all good.

companies donating stuff to a freeride isnt really supporting anything, its advertising and marketing. Unless they are giving you money to make the freeride possible, there is no support there. Dont get me wrong I love hydroturf and what they do, but people dont go to freerides for swag, they go to ride. The swag, raffles and contests are what make the freerides lose their "freeride" feeling. Again, this isnt a bash at Hydroturf in any way, they have a great product, just pointing out some stuff.

so the question was....

We all use HT and lots of it. Anyone use Gator Grip? What are the likes/dis-likes of each? I do NOT want to start a pissing match here-I want dead honest and sincere opinions.

I will start with mine

A 40x62 sheet of HT is 60.00 + shipping.
A 42x64 sheet of Gator Grip is 99.99 + shipping.
HT has alot of color options
Gator Grip has 8 color options
Both companies are on the West coast

Does one hold up longer than the other? Is cost the biggest issue?

I continually support HT via purchases. :highhorse:

I don’t like the current look of the GG, but the Charmin softness description is appealing to my soft, dainty, feminine skin. :purr:

It is wise on HT’s part to support the market with “give backs”, just as it is wise on the market’s part to continue to purchase from them.

Still, there is never anything wrong with a little bit of competition either.

It’s all very simple I would think, but ALL of you males are making a big production out of it, as if we’re discussing “World Peace”. :)sgrin:) It is basic economics gentlemen… supply and demand.

And Idork, you’re obviously suffering from your short man syndrome again this week… it will pass!

Nick, when can I pick up the HT I left at your house? You told me you were getting some in directly after Daytona, but I am still waiting, so I guess you forgot? :cool2:
