I have some thick as$ padding that I will use for the pole.(from HT).. I had thought about bending the pole like mcdog said ..... prolly just run the thick pad for now .

looks good. you should install drain plugs like matt_e did. those wide cuts of foam look like they will work well. good job.

I doubt it. 99% of the forces on the handle pole are pulling it away from the hull, he has a TON of strength there. He lacks strength for the pole being pushed into the hull, but I can't think of when that really happens.

OK, lets think about this...

I have twisted my x-metal pole learning to roll, and you are saying there is no torsional stress in the bracket area?

I beg to differ, and would not trust countersunk screws into fiberglass.

Chad, good looking build you have there, I'll be checking in to see it finished.

he glassed in the whole bracket, I think he's got a better shot at making this work than people are giving him credit for.

Pretty sure he said he glassed the area underneath flat and was not glassing the bracket in...only using bolts.

Let's be honest though... all of these hulls are a shot in the dark. It may work, it may not. How many years after the SJ came out did someone think to run foamless without any real issues? Who would've guessed that 1/8" steel pole bracket would be holding up as well as they are?

The only thing the owner of a new hull can do is use experience and their own judgement on what the best course of action will be for everything that isn't the norm.

I agree . well put John !

I did NOT glass the bracket in , it is being held to the hull with bolts...
I dont think most people understand, the back 2 bolts are now running through almost an inch of fiberglass, and the front 2 have at least half an inch. This is the thickest part of the ski. the ride plate is not as thick as the the nose of this ski.

Yesterday I installed the fuel filler.

it just barely fits , and it pretty much fits exactally in that spot( the tank and filler)

the problem I have run into now is the control cables...

Aaron I have to apoligize to you ... after your comment it really got me thinking .

What if .. I drilled ( with my Kansas drill) through the bottom horizontal tube, then I could either drill or use an end mill bit and open up the bottom of the tube. which would allow the cables to exit directly under the pole and have less of a chance to bind or break. The last pic theres a red circle where I am thinking...

the cables would be out of the way of the fuel filler aswell.

Thoughts??

I agree with drilling the bottom of the horizontal tube for the cables. I'm not sure whether one hole or two would be better though but you'll obviously have to address water intrusion. However, I do think that the best place for the hole will be pointing straight down when the pole is about halfway between your limiting rope position and when the pole is on the hood. That way the cable isn't doing that much bending beyond it's nuetral position in either direction.
