I put the build on back burner for a bit , had to clean the shop , fix the truck , and try to work .... but heres the latest ....

as I was trying to find screws that were long enough for the handlepole bracket...(nose is 1 1/4 thick) I decided to go with the tapered head bolts... they will give me more of that clean look I was trying to get... all the other bolts sit funny on the hull. and looked really out of place. I am ,pretty happy with how this works.

I also made a handlepole pad. Shaped the mold out of poly foam .

looking good

so i guess you guys are sealing the hell out of the underside of that bracket?

how do you get your control cables etc into the hull?

I plan on filling the voids next to the uprights with black 5200 from the top.. The bracket was in place as the glass was drying, so it fits pretty tight from the bottom.

as far as the control cables go ... thats a good question. I have been thinking about that lately. right above the hp bracket is where the filler neck for the gas tank will go . I was thinking either left or right of that . Or Drilll a hole in the bracket area and run them through there. There are holes in the bottom underside of the pole . any clever ideas are welcome!

im guessing the pole bracket is like all others with the big hole in the middle, you could possibly match that up, you may be lucky and the stock sj grommet fits, only concern will be by mounting the pole from the underside you have effectively lowered the pivot point even more (which was probably the point) which means it will either work great.. or it will snag your cables, i know the goose pole had a reputation for tearing cable and it looks like thats what your running

if youcan get those cables to go through the centre bracket hole it would look pretty spank

Yes it is a goose pole , and I was worried about snagging the cables . when the pole sits low the cables may get pinched unless they would retract back into the hull.

the bracket is similar to all the others out there . this one hass no holes drilled yet. I have a stock boot that I was planning on using ... just havent figured out where yet. I wish the cables would run down the tubes , and exit the horizontal tube , in stead of exiting on each of the vertical tubes.

Though while a cool design, undermounting the bracket like that... I forsee those bolts ripping through glass on a first failed back flip. No way theres enough contact patch from just 4 countersunk bolt heads.

They don't sell drills in Kansas?

I doubt it. 99% of the forces on the handle pole are pulling it away from the hull, he has a TON of strength there. He lacks strength for the pole being pushed into the hull, but I can't think of when that really happens.

a counter sunk bolt is pretty strong, the suface area in contact is probbaby the same as a washer.. i did think the same when i saw these poles being mounted this way but im guessing that was all ironed out in the testing phase...

I would like to see pics of the bracket on the underside. I guess a limmiter rope is an ABsolute must on this set up huh? The pole mounting area doesnt look flat at all, does the bracket sit flat underneath? So will any other pole work on this hull without a custom made bracket? Are you glassing and epoxying the bracke to the inside?

I will admit, I'm a little about the 4 screws going through the hull like that. You're not going to rip all 4 holes. The problem is during a flop or something. Two of the screws will be pushing and two will be pulling. The two that are being pulled are the ones that are going to rip through the hull. I'm seriously considering adding a small plate or something on top and just fairing it out. I haven't gotten then yet though.

I went through this on page 11 or 12

Yes a limit rope is a must

the area was not flat ...I built it up underneath

not glassing , taping or velcro'n the bracket .. just bolts

it might break.. it might not ... but I am going to give it a shot!
