^^I've looked at them before and thought that they were pretty high-priced for what you get. You can build something nicer for less and unless pricing has changed, seems you can pick up the S&W AR offerings for cheaper as well.

Or if you're loaded, go with SIG ARclones. LOL.

See, you're baiting up a direct impingement vs piston debate, lol.

I like the idea of an AR type frame build specifically for a piston system so that you don't have the heat and crud blowing back into your bolt carrier, and from what I've read, only the Ruger has a new design that isn't just your standard AR15 with a piston replacing the gas tube, but a new system built for a piston.

Now that you mention it, I remember that was a big deal when they came out with it. Plus, it's nice to have one complete system built by one vendor.

That would explain why they are so damn expensive. $2600 was the price tag on the one I looked at 3 years ago. And that was when standard AR15's where still in the $900 to $1200 range.

Thats probably fair money for that rifle, considering the piston operation. I'm not ready to get back in to .223 just yet, 7.62x39 is just too cheap and plentiful still.

This thread needs more Lever Action love. Here is a Winchester 30-30 I picked up recently. I never really cared for Lever Action rifles until I got one. Now I enjoy them more then my AR's.

it wasnt a literal statement...but piston driven guns are going to be MUCH heavier

Railed RRA Entry Tactical with dominator 2 carry handle no mag= 8.4lbs. 16" barrels DSA FAL with bipod, no carry handle, sand cut bolt carrier no mag= 9.6lbs with its piston system. I agree somewhat, when I first picked up the Sig 556 two things struck me, the unbalanced weight towards the front and all the rattling so I left with my cash Lol. I don't think they are heavy per say, just unbalanced in an AR platform. Edit: I prefer DI in the AR platform, others like piston, its great that they make both IMO.
