When I was looking at the Master they had a Super sitting next to it and I was stuck on which to get. I really like the serrations on the front of the grip that the Super has but ended up going with the Master for the crimson grips and trigger. Nice piece man!

My first 1911 was a Crimson Carry and I found/ learned that the laser isn't extremely effective in broad day light. I felt like I was letting it become a crutch.
The super carry has tritium combat sights, so I figured that would be just as good. Plus I was able to upgrade my grips. The factory ones were crap.

Just brought home my first 1911. Not quite what I was shopping for but it will fill the spot nicely for the time being.

Taurus PT1911 in stainless with case, docs, 3 8-round mags and a funky a/m grip that adds a rail. I put it back to stock for now but the Recover grip was thicker and actually felt much more comfortable.

Possibly, but it seems like way too much work. Shaping parts is easy enough but what about hardening the parts for use? Heat treat and home anno enough?

You buy the frame 80% done. My buddy just did one with my drill press, a file, and a dremel. Should be a piece of cake with a cnc machine. The frame I linked too is stainless steal too.

I never said it wasn't easy. Just seems like an 80% frame for $360 is too close to a finished gun to bother. Besides, did you spend any time on that site at all? I think these guys roll and smoked half the constitution and then topped their soapbox with the rest.

Yeah the guy is an oddball... but 360 for the frame, 250 for the rest of the parts isn't to bad for a complete 1911 and no paperwork.

That probably depends on the state. Here in CA it is still legal to make your own. Only thing is you have to put a serial number on it to sell it.

There are 80% frames out there for a lot less cbarms sells one for about 80 dollars. And brownells or midwayusa can hook you up with all the rest of your parts.

I had a 1911 guy tell me I could buy a Taurus 1911, upgrade the internals and it would shoot like a $1500 gun. My arguement is that its still only worth maybe $100 over what I paid after I upgrade it... Cause I buy and sell guns all the time.

Congrats on the 1911 though. Mine has spoiled me to the point that all other triggers feel like garbage.

A few things I would recommend for upgrades.

Wilson Combat sells a flat wound recoil spring that I really like. Its rated to last much longer than the stock springs. *edit* I'm not 100% sure its designed for a pistol with a barrel bushing.
Here it is anyway... http://shopwilsoncombat.com/Flat-Wire-Recoil-Spring-Kit-Full-Size-45-ACP/productinfo/614/

And since you're a hobby machinist...

I haven't shot this one yet but the trigger does feel very crisp. The very first time I did shoot a 1911, it was a range rental Remington and I put every round in the bullseye right from the first mag till the last. The thing I can't get over is all the hard edges and pinch points. Even the higher dollar 1911's leave alot to be desired in the fit and finish department. I think grip choice will remedy that little issue though.

Do you guys have any tips for pistol shooting? I can shoot a rifle pretty well but I had my first range day with the new glock on Tuesday and it was ugly. At 15 yards my first 3 mags were in a 8 inch group (ya I know it's not that great but I guess pretty good for my second time with a pistol) but the rest of the day it looked like I handed the gun to Ray Charles. Obviously the sight radius is a lot smaller than a rifle and I'm pretty sure that's where my problem arises. Any tips?
