Hand guns

just traded in my HK 9mm for a glock 26 gen 4. Merry xmas to me. Already been to the range and love it. I added the pinky extension to the mags and it helped a lot. I'm pleased with the changed as its much more comfortable to carry so far.
I have the 26 as well. i keep in in the truck at all times :) I'm a skinny guy and had a hard time concealing the 26 in the summer because it was the full width so I switched to the 43. I have tons of friends who carry the 26 though

I'm rocking a 27, but would much rather have the 26. Got the 27 on trade so I've just been carrying it.

We are not allowed to have any weapons or firearms on company property, even in our personal vehicles, but there has always been the comment that they have never executed a search yet. So, plenty of people have guns and knives in their vehicles. Many are hidden to avoid detection in standard searches but many are just stowed in the glove box or console.

Gulfstream announced a couple weeks ago that they were going to lay off over 1000 employees. They conveniently arranged and executed a parking lot search where they brought in police dogs to search out hidden guns, Ammo, weapons and alcohol.

They searched over 400 vehicles and terminated 26 employees for guns alone.

How's that for deciding how to thin the herd?

Wow!!! We have the same policy at work. I've always left my guns in the car. That's making me think twice about it. I might have to park in one of the neighbors parking lots and walk a couple hundred yards from now on. Or Maybe there is something someone could hide the gun in that would prevent a dog from detecting it. Would a ziplock do the trick? Did the cops ask random people to search their cars or only if dogs detected something?

They told the entire facility to go out to the parking lot and to stand by their vehicles. They had multiple K-9 units that started at one end and just worked their way through the opened cars. If a dog got a hit, the car was flagged for further inspection.

I felt like it was a huge risk. I get trying to thin the herd but at least be a little more selective about it. A random search could result in some really valuable and important people going home. They say it had more to do with protecting the employees and with the rise of mass shootings these days, I can see their concern. I would fear that as well if I announced I was laying off 1000+ people just weeks before Christmas. I can't help but wonder if items were found and passes were issued to people not flagged for termination.?.?.?

If you go back to the beginning of this thread you will see I had posted about not being to have a gun in my vehicle and all the people that just said to hide it somewhere. I am very glad now that I never did this. I was thinking they would stop cars at the gate and do a quick cabin search but dogs...how do you hide a gun from a dog trained to smell spent powder, brass and gun oil? Would a plastic bag or a sealed pelican case mask the scent?

Luckily the word spread pretty quick so is second shift people all got a heads up. I didn't have any firearms but I did have a folding buck knife in the door panel that was over their 4" limit. I couldn't imagine losing my job over a knife that is part of my survival kit and has been in every one of my vehicles for over 28 years.

Almost sounds like they were on the verge of violating some amendment rights, but I'm sure it was all in the fine print on your employment contract. That's fuct up.

It's a right to work state plus it's in our contracts that we consent to personal and vehicle searches.

It's also all right on a huge sign at the entrance to the gated parking lot that this was carried out in.

It's also worth noting that we are located on airport property and under strict FAA and Homeland Security scrutiny. There is just one fence between us and the runways.

Texas is a right to work state also. I believe it was 2010 a state law was passed that you could have a firearm in your vehicle on property of your workplace even if said employer had rules stating that you couldn't. Now there of course were exceptions but not many. It was a very comprehensive law that covered many properties. I don't know the specific exemptions but I did take advantage of the passing of the law. Its a weird deal when wackos are in the mix/population. Do you risk losing your job or your life? Good luck fellas, be safe and have fun.

I guess I don't see the problem with a private company saying they don't want weapons in their property. If it really bothers you, file a complaint or try to get the workforce mobilized to change the rule.

That would be great if everyone followed the rules. Everyone doesn't that's when the problems happen. Like when you go to a movie theater (the only one in the city) that says no cc and the citizens follow the law. Then someone finds themselves a soft target. Whats in your vehicle is yours in my opinion and shouldn't concern the management.

How would you feel about your company saying you could not bring your car to work?

Yes and no. It's still private property and they should have the right to make decisions based on that. I carry and I've carried in places I wasn't supposed to but I still feel that a private company should has the right to make rules.

I see your point but the days of companies being able to make their own rules are long gone. We let the government take control of that. I do not carry where the law says I cant. I don't like it but I do it. Right now I'm stuck in CA and the tools I own that cant be here are not here, they are at my buddies in Texas. I'm not perfect but I do try to follow the law of the land whether I agree or not. We are in reality in agreement the way I see it. Have fun and be safe

Exactly, everything has to be so politically correct these days making/changing rules that appeases everyone is pretty much impossible. The problem though, is criminals don't care and seek out places that are "gun free" zones. In GA, if a business (like the movie theater) posts a sign saying no firearms and you have a permit to conceal carry, it is not against the law in there because the business doesn't like it... It becomes against the law if some one sees it and ask you to leave and you refuse, so the idea is just not to make it obvious. Unfortunately, the likely scenario is the manager wont know the gun laws and may just call the police. It's even gotten to the point here it's illegal for a cop to ask to see a weapons permit if they see you carrying so I'm at a loss of why the permit is even needed...
