Home Made Vin's Vs. Swaping Vin's

This is the problem with america today. People do not give a crap about others as long as they get theirs. How about looking out for one another. Helping people and helping our sport grow. Instead of screwing who ever you can because you are too lazy to do the right thing in the first place.

Whose fault is it when the seller CLEARLY states that there is no title or HIN? Who is getting screwed? You know that you are buying a hull without a title and HIN. I don't see anything deceptive about it unless you can't comprehend what "no title or HIN" means and then you deserve to pay some stupid tax....

The VIN police have arrived to the X! Why don't you talk to an honest businessman....probably one of the most honest around that I know of... before you get the free "dick of the year" t-shirt by calling the police on him. The man selling the hulls you have questioned will do whatever he possibly can to make his customers happy. He's probably one of the last people that I would think would "screw someone."

I think he was saying that the buyer of the a/m hull can get screwed by the HIN swap?

Narcing on the shop when you don't have any skin in the game would pretty f'd up.

But, is it really that hard to get a home made boat HIN?

Unless that's what the customer asks for. Maybe the country that those get exported to doesn't have a reasonable way to import an aftermarket hull built up by someone else. If this is the way to get through a mountain of paperwork and the customer wants it done this way, then why not? I'm sure any shop anywhere could build up a hull and send it on it's way with a bill of sale and a wish for good luck.

I think the difference lies in knowing who your seller is.

If you're buying from a reputable seller (as best you can tell) - then why the big issue? We all know that Virgin and Wammer (and I'm sure others) buy new (maybe used) SJ's for donors (both parts and VINs) then sell the leftover hulls without VINs

It's not that simple to just run down to the registration office and register a home-made boat. Many states require you to have receipts for all materials purchased and etc. If fit & finish wise, it looks like an OEM hull - it will be scrutinized.

If you took one of Trinity's hulls into the registration office here - you'd have a hard time convincing the inspecting officer that it was not straight from the Kawi factory.

If "John doe" comes in here and starts selling hulls with out VINs - then I would be concerned.

The guys that listens to this crap and buys the hull. Once the HIN is removed there is not legal way to fix it. It is not a homebuilt hull. The entire process could have been avoided if the HIN was never removed.

You get pulled over on the boat ramp and a inspects you, looses the entire ski. Plus gets arrested for suspected theft. I saw this happen personally on a boat ramp. No matter how you explain the ski is legit you will not get it back.

Yep, he has by far given me the best deals on parts out of every possible parts dealer I have ever bougth from. I can't say the same for the same folks up in Ski naked's neck of the woods. They tried to rip me on a stupid throttle wheel once. I wonder what they do about aftermarket hulls from their shop?

and if you're buying this to replace the hull you ran into a sea wall that is too far gone to fix?

I really don't see the problem with selling new hulls with no titles or hins. The most obviouse use for them are hull upgrades for busted round noses or old squares.

there is a lot made over nothing here.

They do not make aftermarket hulls in my neck of he woods. Unless you go south to Salem to another shady operation. But then again I have not lived in Oregon for over 7 years. Just got back from Europe. Now in SC.
