Other Injuries Due to Riding a Stand Up..

spilt my heal bone in two, broken arm, stitches in left knee, stitches in head and face along with concussion, broken nose, seperated shoulder, broken ribs, and my front teeth.

Wow so many injuries. I think im basically indestructible. I jet ski, ride sport bikes and did MX as a kid. I've only had one injury, a partially torn tendon in my shoulder when I crashed a dirt bike. Not even enough to get me out of work. Worse I got jet skiing was bruised ankles and a couple times I had to curse the pain away. I landed a few times on top of the Superjet.. I know newb mistake to let go. Hm, after rereading this post I think I need to knock on wood, it seems to have worked all these years.

Broke knee cap when doing a sub last year, two weeks after it healed went to do a nose stab and came out of the footholds and hit the same spot and broke it again. I have two rods still in there and some wire

Broken arm in 3 places, plus crushed my elbow, separated that shoulder and 3 broken ribs. All that and a free Air ambulance back to civilization (was way up north)

Hey guys, post your stories of all the injuries you've gotten from riding a stand up ski. I've read here some horror stories such as ripped off balls etc.
It would be good to know past experience and try to avoid same mistakes as much as we could.

Here are mine not so bad stories:

1. minor damage to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) on my knee. Reason: bad shoes (bulky, heavy). Put me out for 2 months
2. Multiple skin bruises. Reason: decided to ride nasty surf in front of jetties, didnt pay attention and a wave blasted me off and pushed me straight to the rocks. Bruises healed in 2 weeks.
3. stretched biceps tendon. Reason: I have no idea how that happened, but one of these times trying to barrel roll, ski fell on top of me. I did not let go the ski, however the rapid impact into the water with such weight on my arm somehow injured the tendon. I was glad my elbow did not snap instead... 3th week and still feel pain every time I force it.

A friend of mine who is member here recently cracked his heel. Really bad injury. Reason: not enough padding on the tray. He actually landed on the aluminum bow eye which caused the injury. At least two months out...

What are your stories and lessons to be learned?

I would stay away from those shoes. I have the exact same pair and they fell apart within 2 months. A little gorilla glue is all that's holding them together. I would look for something better.

These are the shoes that caused my knee injury. I had no idea what I was buying back then. I ride with Asics, the best and only shoes for our purpose :)

If you ride without a helmet and get facial or head injuries I have no Sympathy for you! It is a almost 300lb machine with metal and fiberglass you are riding and jumping. Be smart put on a damn helmet!

Busted eardrums, 2 concussions, hip is permanently messed up, herniated cervical disc (ended my jetskiing and mx), countless bruises, cuts and scrapes...getting too old...

What about injuries related to wrenching on it? Probably have just as many bruises, cuts and scrapes from that.

Few years back doing hood tricks and impaled my calf with my trim lever. Dr had his finger passed the second knuckle saying " I usually pull bullets out of holes like this"

Thankfully nothing major at all and i have done a bunch of failed backflips and countless failed barrel rolls, Fell off a full speed a few times and just skipped across the water. Half the times i dont have a helmet on, just get sore, bruise's, hit my nose with the helmet on somehow need to make a metal bar in the middle so it doesn't happen.

This is my first real season of riding too. Got my sn this August! Nothing major yet...bumps, bruises, gashes..mostly on legs...cut myself up pretty good on my knee trying to jump from tray to hood going too fast.

I don't have footholds yet but had the pleasure of jumping a 45 ft sea ray wake a couple weeks ago....holy chit that was fun. Many times my legs came out of the tray and I had to aim them inside it for the landing....hard on my ankles but I have seasoned weight lifter ankles. Boat wakes make me ride HARD because usually they are out there for me and I feel the need to entertain. I'm waiting until winter to install holds..I still have a month left to ride!

Oh...I'm CONSTANTLY sore from riding! :)

Proper gear reduce the risk of injuries, PERIOD! For me that includes:
Fullface helmet
Knee and shin pads
Gloves
Shoes with ancle support and sufficient cushion for the feet
Neoprene full wetsuit

What do you think about bmx kneepads and shin guards? I have a bell motorcycle full face i'm trying next ride...
