Surfriding Kevins Area 51 super surf hull TWEEKER X-TREME build ....... maybe

nice progress. do you think that there will be issues with it having that much more surface area hitting the water? it looks beefy but its going to scoop alot of water on landings. yes/no?

May be , I'm 1/2 inch wider than Scott . You can always cut it down and redo the vertical section. You really can't be attached to an out come on experimental ideas you can only adjust ... it is what it is

Because they are stand up skis . It could be said, yours looks like a stunt hull . To the layman they ALL look like JS 300's

Differences ... I know because I have one sitting here .

1 . 3 more inches of rocker in the front starting from the front motor mounts .

2. Almost 1/2 inches more rocker in the rear .

3. 1.5 more inches in the rail up to 2 " and change in some areas .

4. Top deck 1.5 inches further forward .

5. Tray will be lower by about 1/2 inch more depending on exhaust pipe placement.

6. Custom sponsons and bond line nose fill that will be worlds apart from the freak .

7. Additional pump mounts that will allow the ware ring / spacer mod setting the pump back 2.5 inches further .

8. My Pump area is stock and will remain that way.

This is a real " what if hull " . I'm doing just that. Nothing on this hull is less , other than possibly performance . Get your bagging stuff ready still coming down friday .

Trimmed down the rails lost 3.5 pounds .... Measured the stock rail thickness and I'm right on the money . Hull , hood , bulkhead etc. I'm at 100 lbs . Wanted to be lighter , but o well . I'll be starting on the sponsons or may be the tray .

I love bumping my build....

Something I have found useful with shaping is a pin gauge . It is imposable to eyeball curves . Some people are better than others at it I personally suck at it so here's a nice cheap way to insure symmetry .

Got a little more done tonight. Cut and fit the bulk head . I had to do this because the top deck is forward 1.5 . Started on the sponsons I'm going 2 inches wide and tapering back to the hull . Did a rough mock up of the poor mans setback pump just to see approx where the pump mounts will need to be located . Time to clean this place up ..... what a mess .

I have something cooler than the pin gauge, its a conformable sanding block, you set it on the hull, undo the locks, let it take the shape of the part you want t reproduce, lock it down then put your sandpaper on it, it sands to whatever shape you have it set to .

T keep looking that would be very useful .

More progress with the tubbies . This is slow and tedious to get right . Need to blend in the front but it's looking good . The real problem is after all the effort the tubbies may not work ....

If anyone complains about a hull builder charging what they charge it because they have never attempted to build a composite part from scratch.

Question .... Should I glass the tubbies flush or 1/4 high .

you think they need to be longer i dont know but it looks like it might just keep the frontend up maby just move them back. IDK just thinking

It's not the final shape . Actually thinking about going shorter by about 5 inches and splitting the difference between destroyers and tom 21 's .

D-Roc

I forgot!
i made my sponsons over 5' long, your right about not knowing if they will work but you will find out soon enough. i made mine flush as if to make the hull wider without an extra skeg.

Well i've done it again .... 3 am . When the creative juices are flowing you have to to go with it .

Sponsons shaped , nose shaped . The sponsons have been the hardest part so far . I still need to fine tune before glass , but for the most part they are done .

Pic 1. Held 2 inches all the way to the front .

Pic 2. Sponsons are as long as tom 21's with more width than the destroyers up front

Pic 3. I like the lines ....... will it ride well ? It's really looking like a fish style board wide front narrow back .

Want to thank ( 227 ) ( rat boy ) for their time and little G2 in this area .
