Well your kinda right. It was the heat created by the poly resin that melted the foam. Epoxy doesn't generate it's own heat but poly does. That's what melted the foam not the resin itself.

I disagree. Mix a batch of epoxy resin in a solo cup and see how long you can hold on to it once it begins to flash. Every epoxy resin I've used gets hot once the reaction occurs. The smaller the batch obviously the less heat is generated but even quarter batches get warm in your hand.

Thats only while in the pot. The exothermic reaction is MUCH cooler when spread out. Also the styrene in the vinyl /poly resin melt Styrofoam .

"polyester resin has styrene in it and will dissolve the styrene in polystyrene foam" (surfersteve.com) pink housing foam is xps...extruded polystyrene, epoxy generates heat too, I think if it isnt making heat that means it isnt curing...

Quick Update,
I was able to finish sanding the inside of the engine compartment. I sanded smooth all of the ribs and also took off the stock mounts that were there for the water box and gas tank. I'll figure out what to use with the new stuff when that bridge comes.
also in the middle of scrapping paint I seen some handwriting on the bulk head that has been there since 1992, wud up to whom ever from 92.

Finally!!! It has been a loooong time since I posted, or even worked on the ski, but today I was able to get some shiznit done!
Got my glassing station all set up and worked out not too bad. Oh and on a side note buying scissors meant to cut fiberglass makes life A LOT easier.

I got the rocker temporary glassed in at the moment it looks good and should be strong enough to hold the shape while I remove the shims and then can finally finish glassing the rocker completely

Some forms I made to cap the back where I hacked off about 3 inches of hull, it’s just cardboard with real Aluminum Duct tape, and I even waxed it so hopefully glass won’t stick too bad.

Here's the back glassed in some the forms taped to the back to keep the shape and give me something to glass against. I am only guessing on layups right now and what I have on the back is, in this order; 1 layer of 4oz E-glass, 1 layer of 1.5oz chopped strand mat, 2 layers of 17oz biaxial and then 2 more layers of the 4oz E-glass. I think I will add a few more layers that wraps around the outside but I'll have to remove the forms first.

Question, for filling in the pie cuts used to create the rocker...user duraglass (bondo with fiberglass in it)? or mix up some epoxy with the microballons?? one better then the other?

FYI, glass doesnt stick to wax paper.

Any updates?

Great Tip!!! I only used the Aluminum tape because it is extremely sticky on the back side and will stick to anything while the other side is smooth as a babys butt and it allowe me to wax it up.
I think I will use the wax paper techniqie to pre-preg/wet out some of the cloth before sticking it. the 17oz is kind of a pita to fully saturate so if i can get her a little wet first it should make the process of laying her out easy-ier-ish.
I am hoping to get some work done tonight but I gotta get the hw out the way first

You may already know this, but the 1708 biax is stronger on one side than the other. I found this out kind of haphazardly the other day testing out some new resin. The side that has the twill weave is much stronger than the side that looks more chopped-ish.
So I had a 2"x3" test panel, if I put my thumbs on the chopped looking side (I know its not really chopped...) it was difficult to get it to deflect. But if I turned it over, and put my thumbs on the woven side, it would deflect easily and much more.

May be duplicate info, but if not I hope it helps.

Build looks good, get to work the season is upon us!

Thanks Swapmeet, I did not know one side was stronger then the other. since I got the biax without the mat I thought it really didnt' make a difference. I guess I''ll have to take a second look at the cloth becuase it looks very similar on both sides.

so when laying out the cloth do i want to alternate the way the cloth's face one another?

and yes...spring time here in the mitten, still cold as ballz tho, but definitely need to kick it in high gear if I wanna start riding sooner then later.
