I bought this MSD from Skinnyman, never used it nor did I install, test, etc. I know Larry so have no reason to think theres a problem with unit. Only way to test it would be installing it, which I didn't!

Next I post it FS for the same price I paid... It sells, who knows how it was installed or if UPS dropped it, what ever...

I'm going to refund $200

I hope all parties are happy!

MSD has always been good to me regarding repairing their car products. Never paid a dime for the three I had repaired. (I own too many cars) haha.

Two were my fault, one didn't work after sitting for two years.

I will never use anything else.

Word to the wise....never, ever, touch the spark plug wires when the engine is running.

I couldn't move any of my fingers after instantly clenching my hand for a few minutes after pulling out the trans dipstick and a bad wire grounded out on my hand. I was a believer from then on.

Ok, so you melt the epoxy.
Now you've got a mess to clean up.
You best check out any heat sensitive components that may have gotten damaged.
What about any soldered connections? The heat may not have completely reflowed them, but they could have gotten brittle.
Now spend time to troubleshoot the original problem.
Fix it, test the unit.
Repot everything.

Instead of wasting all that time, you could have just grabbed a brand-new unit from the shelf.

Like I said, potted stuff is hard to repair and is generally not done because it would be much cheaper to just crank out another unit. (They cost peanuts in materials).

Qualifier: I've worked in electronics manufacturing & testing.

I'm not discounting your answer or expertise at all. I was just asking the question. You bring up valid points for sure.

Also (and after this I swear the thread derail is over ), it's not unusual for companies to not fix electronics like this at all. Something else may have weakened or gotten damaged. Or they want the damaged unit for failure analysis.
