Light weight hulls...

I have 2 WDK hulls...

I dont believe them to be "the best in the world," but I enjoy them

if anything, the WDK hulls are the most unique...pretty much everything else is just a copy

Which ones are the most popular and the pick of the litter? I've seen the ones from Blowsion, Wamiltons, TKO, and Waterdawg. (am i missing any?)

What are some of the pros and cons to using one of these?

I have an XFT surf hull(62 lbs). I looked at all the builders and decided it was about the best I could do and Sergio is a good guy and easy to deal with. After owning it for close to two years I think I made the right decision. Most of the builders are getting better and making pretty good stuff now. Some are better than others. I personally wouldn't bother with a hand laid boat. Bagging has been around for a LONG time and affords a much lighter hull that is easily as strong. As with motor builders I would let the product do the talking. I've always been put off by those that feel it necessary to tell everyone how good they are. You don't see Malone, Sergio, Judge, Art, Hedlund, etc here constantly telling us how they're the best. The work speaks for itself.

i do remeber it was lighter than the trinity ski in daytona
That was comparing a sj to a full length sxr with a ton of polaris engine in it. Look at Seans evo pro that weighs 248-250 lbs with a kawi engine. His hull was 10 lbs heavier than Joshs. So really the hull was lighter than Bogarts. I'll have a 230ish lbs ski for Josh at WF everybody is welcome to check it out. We'll have a both and 4 skis to look at, can't wait it suck missing last year by a week or so.

def a A+ ski... felt it and seen it myself inside and out and from the ground up...def a lot of things done to that hull that would make it my first choice (just the composite guy alone is amazing)...... too bad these guys dont know what they really got brewing over there :sneaky: there has been a lot of new things, ppl, and products in the xscream company here in the past 10months and ppl will be soon to realize:beerchug:

bronson and mike- show us your boats you own from your builders...oops neither of you have one. so I would not put to much weight on your words of wisdom. yes I have seen both and agree they are definitely superior quality, but c'mon both are pretty new on the scene. I would rather hear from someone who has beaten on a ski for a few seasons and who actually owns it to tell me about flaws. which all skis have to a degree. its a whole lot of money to spend and it won't make you a pro rider. better- maybe. but more practice will do that to and is more or less free.

of course I can understand you guys giving your friends props but seriously it getting a little old already. its like you guys are getting trinity and x-metal credits, a dollar a post eh? bronson should have enough for a hull soon.

I think the new Waterdawg envy is going to be one of the best out there. I had a few problems with my x-jet but he has really listened to his customers and made the appropriate changes to increase strength and durablity. Plus it is different than the other hulls out there. Design changes have been made to improve upon the SXR platform. I am going to be testing a envy hull all summer and will be able to give better feedback on it then. But on paper I really think it is the best bang for your buck. Competative price, whole list of design improvements and durable construction. Pretty solid hull

I think it is preference... Do you want a superjet or sxr style hull? Ask around, talk to the builders and go with who you trust. There are more than one good hull out there...

Is it really *just* preference?

If it were me, I would go by proven durability over a few seasons FIRST, then go by warranty, and then I'd pick between the options left. (Probably not so many at that point)

Change Envy for any other hull name Jeff's had, and that statement sounds like many that were made over the past half decade.

I don't really see anybody smashing up aftermarket hulls in the past few years. They all seem to have gotten better. I meant, you have to start with:

Sxr or SJ style as a preference and then go from there.

There are 3 SXR hulls (around here): Blowsion, Trinity, Waterdawg
There are a ton of SJ hulls: XScream, Wammer, Waterdawg, Blowsion, XFT, Highroller.

(I may have missed a couple)

I will be looking for an SXR style this winter and for me the deciding factors will be price and customer service. (They all cut a ton of weight out of my ski, 2 or 3 pounds doesn't matter to me, I'm not doing flat water backies)

You don't hear about people smashing up hulls because you're not looking for it. Those that do don't advertise the fact (unless they got warranty issues :wavey:)
There are plenty of a/m composite parts (incl hulls) getting smashed up. Just look & listen.
If someone can't build a hood to last, I wouldn't trust their hulls. (and vice versa)
And if I apply my first two rules, your list gets quite a bit shorter.

If it were me buying a new a/m hull, I would talk to plenty of current and past owners.
Not those that work there, know someone that has one, have ordered one, are waiting for it, have just gotten it - no, those that have owned and ridden for a few seasons.
Example: Do you know of many people that have been riding the same lightweight WDK or Wammer hull for a few years?

Disclaimer: I seem to be sort of ruling out Trinity and X-Scream from the get-go. I would look at their past work - not too hard to do if they've been in the composite business for a while.
