FX-1 making the first Tom21 carbon fx1

can you post pics of pat's completed one??? Also for the shortened hull option, are you open to the idea of making a rideplate / hull extension based off aftermarket plates like a quadrafin or JD? Just wondering because I would definetly like to get a shortened one BUT I also love the quadrafin on a stock fx1 because it keeps it from sliding so much. Im guessing that would mean another complete mold though so just wondering if you see that as an option. THANKS!!!

I have a few things I want to modify already. nothing bad just small things that will make life easier or improve the hull.

the reason I did the plate that way was it makes it so much easier to change the length of the hull. the other reason is that it will allow me to make changes to the plate and not just the small area that used to be the plate, now I can modify it over the whole back end of the ski. so any shape that you want to carve out of the bottom I can make a piece that will lay in the mold and its basically that easy. if it needs to hang down lower that is where I would have to make a new mold.

as far as making a JD plate I wont do a direct copy but I will make something that approximates it. I have a wide selection of skis and plates and have some ideas on some things I want to try. One of the problems with that plate is it interferes with the nozzle, I want to make another plate with 2 cones in it, I have some other shapes that I want to try out as well.

this hull was built around a stock hull. that was the plug and is the green ski. it belongs to Chasingdaylite(Pat)
Pats new hull is all carbon and we modded the top at the gunwhales because its something he wanted. so right as we were about to build it we cobbled together some inserts and made it happen. this is the orange and black
after his hull was popped we were kickin around the idea of shortening the ski. actually we had talked about it previously but since the molds were made it was not really an option. I sorta pushed him to cut it up after we agreed on how it could work. after seeing how it was actually fitting and how the rideplate was mounting I knew I had to find a different approach.

So I molded the back of the stock fx and made inserts from that to install in the molds. I have a few more tweaks to do but considering this is just something that I wanted to do at the last minute I think it couldnt have gone better.

Now is the fun part, getting feedback and seeing what is working and whats not. The green ski is a blast to ride but its also much heavier than the new version. its also stock length. so it will be interesting to see what actual riders can do with it besides putt around in circles like me lol.orange front.jpg orange.jpg orange and green.jpg cfxbottom.jpg

AWESOME!!! That thing looks amazing, cannot wait to hear chasingdaylight's comments about it after this weekend and see more pics of it completed! Sounds great about the ride plate / extension scenario...cant wait to get my hands on a hull Tom! Are you going to have any other ones make it to daytona?

These are the only 3 made so far. I have a4th that will being built next week and I'm just about ready to accept deposits on the next 2 or 3. I'm going to stick to doin them like this in hopes to keep reasonable build schedules. These have taken some time but just yesterday I prepped the ljner mold so I'm finally done w molds and collecting materials

I should be there tomorrow evening. I hope there is one to try out, but I can't wait to see it in person either way. I barely remember that green from from a few years ago.

im sure some of you can identify with this. I used to watch those car build shows and think to myself, "how do you get into a place where you have a week to build a completely modified and restored car?" like boyd coddingtons show. and here it is, days left and Im just now making the hood and liner. Easy to say how its shouldnt be this way but looking back I dont see how I really could have avoided it.

a few years back I painted my ski on wed night and by friday I had everything done but turf. did an all nighter and jumped in the truck and headed out.

Pat is done building as of 9pm last night. he is waiting(patiently) for a hood from me and a motor from his builder.

i guess the upside is that my life is not boring.

Nice! Hope you can pull through and make it happen...for whatever reason any kind of motorsport build seems like they ALWAYS go up to the very last minute and have you all stressed out but the minute you hit the water on your new hull it will all be worth it! I'll stop bugging you so you can get those things done but I am super excited to hear the ride report and what you guys think!
