ok, I dont have all the stuff done to finish this little update but I will soon.
I had not planned on modding the bottom initially. But Chasingdaylite was thinking about it and so we decided to dig in. The plan was since the hull was already made was to cut the rear section on either side of the pump, shorten the hull and then use the cut out as the new hull extension. make a mold of that and make several sections so you could have multiple lengths depending on conditions or what worked best after trying different lengths out.
He is pretty close to closing it up and being done with that carbon build.

After seeing how little room there is for inserts around a larger exhaust and scupper tube and seeing the difficulties in managing ways to mount the rideplate I can understand why the hull extension/rideplate combo is being put to use by most of the hull builders today. We didnt have that option as the decision was made after the part was.
Started with a longer rideplate.
Installed it in the hull, clayed all the gaps and pulled a mold with flanges so I could make a plate.
Made a test plate, then made another that would be the correct thickness to be cut up and placed in the mold to create a relief for the real part to be installed later.

I dont know why, maybe im just a stickler but I wanted the shorted hull to be the exact copy of the full length. so I had to make a plug of the rear, make a part off of that, glass the part to the plate insert, glass the rear section to it and make a flat section to fab to the top. The top will be lower so that if you want to lower the footholds you can do so. the weather has gotton cooler this week so the small parts and amounts of resin are not curing like they do in the summer. its been frustratingly slow. I have the flat part left to bond today and then its gelcoat time. I will be cutting material for the hull today and laying up tomorrow.
it doesnt seem like a lot of work but like anything else, prep work is 90% of the job.
this will allow for -6 and each hull will come with 3 plates.

had to force myself to leave at 1:30 last night. Finally got the inserts done. they are not pretty but it will work. waxed 2 coats and gelcoat will go on shortly.

Quit wasting your time trying to name it... that has already been decided. I am not saying TOM21 is vain or anything... but when he told me it was the "FX-Tom" I thought he was being a little conceited. It's not like this has taken up half his life or anything.
Considering that these were the other names he was throwing around I think he did good(?):
Tommy Chong - What a$$hat would name a ski after a "B" movie star "Mostly Maui Waui man, but it's got some Labrador in it"?
Huxtable - Dr Heathcliff Huxtable was too long.
Supergeek - Not sure if this was inspired by comic books or crack addict singers?
FX-Micro - Micro brewery? (this was my favorite BTW)
Lowballer - sounded kinda cheap and cheesy.
