Maiden voyage today!
It was a tough road the last couple of days. I had some issues with the Wammer trim system and the steering throw. The RN cable has 4 inches of throw and it seems that the Wammer system needs at least five to go full extension. Oh well, I centered it and moved on (more on this later).
When I went to start it up, I had terrible backfires. The waterbox blew itself off the exhaust hose and started a fire at my primer line .
Turns out that the spark plugs were non-resistor that I stuffed in the head last year to keep moisture out over the winter.
Once I put brand-new 8BRES in there, it fired right up.
I slapped a pole pad on five minutes before loading up the ski, then headed out.
THIS THING IS AWESOME!!!!!
Holy crap it's a nice ride. It handles super-twitchy, but very predictable. I guess that may not make much sense - it just handles very quickly, responding very fast to any input. It turns on a dime, much faster than my SJ did. I guess I worried for nothing about the steering throw.
At 50+ mph it rides almost like an SXR it's so stable. It carves just fine (but I am still trying to figure it out).
I was instantly comfortable on the hull. Within 20 minutes ride time I tried flipping and rolling it. Didn't make the flips around, but I can already tell it's only a matter of the right setup wake.
With my ole big bore motor in it, it just about wants to flip by itself without even pulling the trim.
Lots of power, lots of buoyancy, super nice handling.
I was also worried about the length of the pole. It turns out it is absolutely perfect (from what I could tell).
I got some video, I'll upload it later.
