Blaster is finally done-ish. Just need to find some pink turf for the foot holds and handlebar pad.

I was reading through this thread and I see you guys are posting speeds and RPMs and I hope this isn't a ridiculous question, but how do you know what RPMs you're running? Pretty sure my Blaster doesn't have a tac

Tiny tach. I use this:
Amazon.com : Hardline Products HR-8061-2 Hour Meter/Tachometer for 2-Cylinder Engines : Automotive Instrument Panel Tachometer Gauges : Automotive
http://www.amazon.com/Hardline-Prod...ne Products&qid=1460744806&ref_=sr_1_3&sr=8-3

If you plan on tuning, jetting, messing with carbs at all i suggest a tach. There is no other way to know whats going on.

What he said^^ Also make sure and read the tach's instructions. There are different settings for 1 cylinder 2 cylinder 3 cylinder etc.

@Quinc just read through all 11 pages of this as I bought a blaster today. Where did you mount the tach? Worth wiring up to the bars or just keep in the engine compartment?

I put some Velcro on the hood and velcro on the back of the tach.

57.4 MPH? I think your gaydar , I mean radar is malfunctioning

Gaydar is on point! 57.4 was with a gps and riding into a 30mph wind. ;)

It was the "Rocket" pipe Buzzard you know it was!!! One a side note my B1 had a clapped out Rocket pipe when I picked it up and I brought back to life with the Quinc retro pipe repair guide. Two seasons trouble free so far.

THX Qunice.

I drilled out the water hole in the pipe and threaded it for a pilot jet. So far I have only run it in the ocean. So hard to tell if there was any gains.
But it did get plugged up with a piece of sand and make the pipe so damn hot it you couldn't touch it. Going to start with a 120 jet and an inline water filter whenever I make it out to the lake next.

Managed to blow the gasket that goes between the manifold and head pipe. While I had her apart I noticed all of the exhaust dampeners on the mount where completely deteriorated down to nothing. Anyone know of a stronger alternative to these?

coffmans last version of those pipe isolators were Teflon instead of rubber. I don't have any of those left. I have complete factory B mod and limited pipes that i'll sell for a bazillion dollars each, if you want to dump that coffmans system

I sent Rhaas an email to see if he could make something. I have a bpipe with a tnt chamber, but I don't want to give up on her yet.

It allows the exhaust to move a lot more, which I am not sure is a good thing. I will run her on the hose this weekend and see how well it works before I test it at the lake.

Hey... I know this a really old topic, but I'm fighting major 701 vibration issues. It killed two stock pipe mounting brackets and also rattled the bolts all out on this same Coffman pipe. Apparently I have an early model of this pipe that has a simpler L shaped bracket at the front of the cylinder than later models. I can't quite see the shape of your forward bracket- although it looks like it doesn't tie into the head like the updated Coffman one apparently does- did you build your own? Also- did the coupler come from Coffman? thanks!

The bracket you have is fine and the same as mine. You want to ebay search Hump coupler and get the 4 or the 5 ply. You are also going to need to trim it to the same length so it fits right.

Next replace the dampeners in the mount.

For hardware the best luck I have had is:
10.9 grade bolts
stainless nylon lock nuts
stainless lock washer
stainless star washer
stainless flat washer
Blue loctite.

Last couple rides with this combo and nothing gets loose or needs to be re torqued.

Lots of info here:

Damn dude! Glad I asked! Some great ideas! I do remember reading somewhere- maybe it was you- that said various (extra?) rubber mounts made it worse than if it were hard mounted. Did you also replace the rubber grommet insert things that go through the mounting plate on the pipe? (I've never heard of higher than grade 8 bolts BTW) When this problem first cropped up it sheareinserts.jpg d all three bolts off the top of the cyl head! :(

Yup replace those if you need too. I get new ones and drill them out so they fit a 10m bolt. The 10.9 grade bolts are zinc coated and not stainless. Also you need tighten everything up together at the same time and shim the case bolt. But biggest fix is running a hump coupler.

Are you still running the rocket pipe Quinc? If so, any idea what temp yours runs at? Mine is running around 170*..seems hot to me. Also where did you purchase the rubber dampeners between chamber and bracket?

I run mine hot to the touch but not sizzling. There is a thread on the blaster subform that has all the info on where to get the dampeners etc.
