I just got an e-mail from patrick mell of the APBA to ask my opinion on changing some of the freestyle rules to make it more apealing to everybody in our great sport
Here it is:
Hello Freestyle Manufacturers:

In an effort to try to increase interest in freestyle competition in the United States we have developed new technical rules for Freestyle. Actually we have developed the first set of Freestyle technical rules, as we could only find some technical information on Pro Freestyle. In a few days we will be releasing the new APBA rulebook with the rules. With the new rules we be offering 3 classes:an Amateur Freestyle class with Stock hull (top and bottom deck) and an Amateur Freestyle class with a complete aftermarket hull allowed and Pro Freestyle (complete aftermarket hull allowed). As the leaders in Freestyle technology we value your input into how to make Freestyle better. Please review the attached draft of the rules and please make comments or suggestions and let us know if you believe we missed something.

Please feel free to call or e-mail me if you have any questions or suggestions to take the sport of Freestyle watercraft competition to the next level.

Thanks.

Patrick Mell

3 classes.....seems like its just gonna thin out the field.

i agree with the thinning out the feild.I dunno mabe shoot for a motor rule either 800 or 850cc and throw a weight rule in total weight of the skis that way no one can say that the were beat cause it was an am lightweight hull

this offers the best of both worlds! Am hulls only help with the "big air" tricks such as BR's ,BF and throws. everything else a stock hull can do just as well. This is the future guys!... we have to adjust to the times.

I'm sure they'll only run two classes at most regional events. It'll only really matter at Nationals and World Finals where there will be enough people to fill the classes.

I agree, just what we need, more classes!

While I feel they have their head going in the right direction. They are still living in the past.

Here is what they need..............
Pro class.......... Totally unlimited rules!
Amature class............ anything goes hull wise, only limit is an 850cc displacement.

You want to make freestyle grow? Thats how you do it!!

It's my opinion that w/o a stock freestyle class this sport will go nowhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So w/ that said.... It looks as if there has to be 3 classes. I understand the thinning out argument, but I would bet that it brings tons more people into the sport, filling up the classes w/i a couple years. The first year or two maybe a bit thin, but is that any different that what has been going on in freestyle??... I feel this is a positive thing and a good descision on the APBA's part..

Of course, I really don't know much about racing... This would be an outside opinion, so take it as you will...

hey Goose, this is an APBA Racing rule book............ the first ever rule book, this is not the IJSBA's rule book, so yes, it may be a little late but it is more effort than the IJSBA has put forth..............
