Three classes is perfect....
I am AM. in the flat... I should compete with a Nebie... NO.
Am I ready for Pro Flat.... NO...

do new people in sport get intimidated... YES....

1. beginner... stock.
2. Am. mods
3. pro unlimited !

that will let more people try out, so a sub and stabs might Win in Beginner.
and wont put People Like Me, ratti, Saki, Robbie... with someone that wants to try..... and we all have top equipment...

Think.... this is really good.. First time I thought all week ! :haha:

Is the Hot water tour running under APBA rules?

I think this will get people out and excited, I know I am... No way in h3ll would I want to go out and acompete with Pete, Ratti, Waterfreak, Yamasaki, etc as an amateur, but I do want to start competing.

Three classes will do that.

That is exactly what I ment... Awesome ! :arms:

Competeing with people who are better then you will make you better, stronger, faster!..... no reason not to give it a try!

Yamasaki has a stock hull, so he would still be in the stock hull class..... right along with me  this is gona be fun!

I didn't say I was afraid of competing against people that are better than me.

well, all promoters follow IJSBA Rules, but are racing under the APBA Sanctioning body since the IJSBA got out of regional racing...... Now the APBA is making their own rule book to follow, everybody in the US should be going by that, but at the World Finals will run under the IJSBA's rule book...... This is similar to how the EJSBA did in Europe last year, they came up with the GP Racing class, similar to the old Mod class, but this is not a recognized race class so you could not race a GP style ski at the WF's

you basically have to build two completely different boats, one for regional racing and one for havasu?
until this past year, TECH for AM Freestyle has been a joke, I know of a few who competed with AM hulls back in 2004 and nothing was said........ I am not gonna bitch and cry if they beat me on an AM hull, if they can ride better that is all that matters.

I honestly think that this new rule has totally missed the mark...... there are not that many who ride AM hulls... Instead on focusing on that they need to focus on judging criteria...... do it something like how they judge figure skating, where you go out and have to do certain tricks then you go out and freeskate, you are judged on ability and creativity...............

i was referring to the different rule books not the classes, the classes will bring more people into the sport

Is freestyle really that big?? I've only been to one freestyle competition but it would have been pretty lame if they'd broken out Pete and Robbie in one class and then the other four guys in the other class. The winner of that event had a stock hull w/24-7 hood, btw...

I need a full two minutes of material before I start concerning myself about "unfair" advantage :banghead:

honestly, no, its not........... I wish it was........ we average 5 guys in AM freestyle at the Surf & Turf Events. only one of them runs an AM Hull.........

I also think that an aftermarket hull should be judged by weight !
I ride and after market. but it is just as heavy as a stock with reinforcing.
So, the reason for mine is strength ! not lighter to beat people !
But I could get DQ. for running mine in finals though ! that is what
I did not understand about the rules !

Yea, and my boat is lighter then Steve's WCF Boat.... and its a stock hull .... I gues I did go overboard :headbang:

:)note: thats just what it felt like when I helped him load his boat at Daytona.) no scale value lol

from talking with other riders and competitors its usually the same opnion no one feels like the am hull is and unfair advantage.unless someone comes in with a 50lb hull and has a ton of motor then thats a little unfair.my first even i competed agains Pete and Robbie with a squarenose hull with a prop and riva red pipe and footholds.Riding against them guys made me push harder and want to do better.its not completly the hull or the motor the rider makes up for alot.

He's another email regarding the latest changes.
Steve:

We did bump the displacement of the Amateur Freestyle Class II that used aftermarket hulls to 900 cc. Class 1 with stock hulls is set at 800cc.

Question - We know that there exists a bunch of freestyle/freeride riders our there. Our research has found that the majority still have stock hulls (but do have hoods, nose piece, handlepole, etc). What kind of engines are under the hoods? Do you feel that most of these riders have engines over the 800 cc limit?

In our opinion, we have a better chance of attracting new participants that already have a boat that meet the technical requirements than by requiring people to change or adapt to the requirements.

In the past we have had to turn many new (first time) freestyle competitors away because they had a boat that was not legal in Amateur Freestyle and they could not go right to Pro at their first event (they had complete aftermarket hulls). Same thing with displacement. If the boats are over 800 cc they will not revert back for competition.
