Surfriding New Hope For Seadoo?

I admire your optimism.

These may rejuvenate the racing scene as long as they can provide financing for young males like they did for standups 20+ years ago. Racing has become a competition of deep pockets, so has freestyle. This has excluded almost everyone with the desire to compete.

Am I the only one that watched this in disappointment that BRP, who owns Evinrude, who makes amazing clean burning awesome two strokes, is STILL on the stupid ass 4 stoke kick? I will admit it is a step in the right direction as for size and weight, it looked like it came out of the water nicely and all but this 4 stroke bull:):):):) kills me.

Awesome, way to go SeaDoo - Im definitely interested in buying one. I wonder how it compares in size, weight, speed to a blaster.

I also imagine tuning, and turbo options might make their way into the market as well. Think how this ski will dominate the rental market too - easy to work on, top deck replacement parts.... cheap

I kinda dig it....small and powerful.....old is coming back! I saw a new $1200.00 Samsung stereo system with 4k watts and 15" subs yesterday at Costco! Looks like a modern take on the 70's stuff!

Who knows, maybe this could eventually lead to standup sales. The first watercraft I ever owned was a Seadoo SPX. After a few months I was bored and bought a standup the next season. This type of product can get new people in the sport, and maybe convert them to standup riders.

A few forums are saying the hull is based of the X4, the 95 and 96 xp's. Those boats are still a huuuge part of racing. Good hull, motor just prime for upgrades. I reaallly hope it takes off. Hopefully some of the technology of the mega couches pushing 400 HP trickles down to these. That would be some good racing!

Even with all that said, it would be a great backup or loaner ski. 5k, uses almost no gas? Hopefully it'll be reliable as well. (fingers crossed)

Clean and simple, and has super low emissions, this ski packs quite a punch with it's new 900cc ACE power plant
Available in two HP versions. 60 HP and 90 HP. This is a tiny motor, very light and has tons of torque. We saw this engine first released last year with the Ski Doo snowmobiles. These engines are a huge hit in that venue and is the perfect powerplant to carry over to the Spark watercraft.
This engine uses the latest technology Bosch ECU of which V-Tech already has tunes for. So if you want to add some more "spunk" to your "Spark" then you are all set! www.youTUNEit.net

Fun factor of this ski is off the charts. Based off of the old HX hull, the center part of the hull is actually a direct copy and paste of the old HX hull. It's a bit wider and a bit longer which makes it very stable for a watercraft of such a small size. The Spark weighs a mere 400 lbs in it's 2 up configuration and 430 lbs in a 3 up configuration. With an impressive power to weight ratio this ski packs quite a hole shot and and just rips in and out of turns giving the rider a unique close to the water experience.

Sounds like it is pretty comparable, size, weight and power wise to an X4 XP, the megacouchers scoff at 90hp but that was the standard not to long ago. I am sure a turbo is not to far out.

I think it is genius on SeaDoo's part, even though it hurts my soul to say that. A fun cheap entry level ski. People that only wanted to buy new because of warranty and reliability concerns of buying used can now buy this for cheap money. They then get hooked on the hobby but realize they want more speed, and in two years are buying a go-fast $15K barge like an RXT.

Based on an HX like an RXP is based on an SP. They both have wetted surface on the bottom with the pump at the rear.

How long before there is one in a sj.

I say less than a month from the day they hit the showroom floor. I'm already bugging my wife to let me pick one up for her ski.

Yamaha did something very similar about 7 years ago in their snowmobiles. They had switched their entire lineup over to massive 4 strokes that responded very well to turbos and such. It was nothing to have 325hp 2 days after you bought your ski. After about 3 years of offering these monsters, Yamaha came out with a 90hp 500cc twin cylinder 4 stroke and brought back the Phazer. I picked up a lightly used one for my ex for $5500 out the door. It was a goofy looking thing but I ended up riding it more than she did. I had a 2003 Skidoo Summit at the time with the 800cc Rotax and 151" track. My ski was rated at 165HP but that little 4 stroke was so well balanced and engineered that it was more nimble and way more fun even though it weighed 150lbs more and had almost half the hp. It was great on fuel, near impossible to get stuck and was just an all around funner machine. They offered a turbo for it as well that would have boosted it to 135HP but I never got the chance to do it and ended up selling everything and moving to the US.

Here's a writeup on the turbo'd Phazer here; http://www.montanayamaha.com/mcxpress_pdfs/phazer.pdf

BRP offered a fun and lightweight 2 stroke model which my boss at the time had a pair of for his kids. He bought my Phazer for his wife and said it was a much nicer ski and drank way less fuel. Even though similar in cc's and HP, the 4 stroke had way more torque which is ideal in a snowmobile.
