After riding a stand up for 10 minutes this summer I was hooked! Picked this up over the past weekend super cheap.

I want to get the motor up and running before starting any cosmetic projects. Any advice is welcome !

Pulled the air box, flame arrestors and arrestor plate . The carbs looks decent

Drained the tank of the two year old gas

Also did a compression check. roughly 150lbs on each, battery is shot - had to jump it

What should be first step with the carbs?

Thanks ! Its a 98 - should be a great ski to learn on.

The left sponson is missing , may just ditch the right one??? My FZR now has some competition in the mod $$$ department :)

i just got done doing mine and the fp limited was a great upgrade, and get new sponsons, tubbies where the best mod for my ski,i can actually carve with my ski know.

What are your plans for it as far as mods / work done on it?

Winter plans -

Motor Up and running
New battery
Carb clean / gasket rebuild

Strip down hull exterior pieces

Sand and fill small gouges
Strip old decals
Spray hull (just decent rattle can job)

Hydro turf chin pad , tray, side pads and rub rails.
Replace lower pole pad and pole mount

New Kawi decals from exotic signs

Replace left Sponson

End goal = Ride standing more than 8 seconds without falling or filling hull with water.

As long as your planning on alot of cleaning I would label all the cooling/fuel lines so you know where they go and pull the engine to really clean out the engine bay, you can clean around it for sure but the next second you get water in it its dirty again from not cleaning everywhere...just my 2 cents.. congrats on the ski, you will be addicted quickly, Im building a 750sxi from the ground up and looking forward to my first ride on it to see how it compares to my SJ

Hey thanks for the advice! I was thinking of pulling the motor to fully clean abd repaint the interior hull. Is there a step by step thread on how to do it. It looks somewhat simple by the description in the Service manual

I don't know of a thread that tells exactly how to tear down a ski, but its real easy. Just get a couple of totes to throw the big parts in, some zip lock bags for the little stuff and label every thing since its your first time. Every ski I buy I disassemble/reassemble just to make sure I don't have issues on the water, its just thing to do to a unknown ski. To paint prep I use a degreaser, then soap and water, then carb clean, and then acetone before paint, its real tough getting all the oils that have soaked in to the hull out. If your going cheap then a spray can of appliance epoxy paint works real good and is duriable.

I imagine the obvious disconnects and four motor mount bolts? The motor slides forward and freely disconnects from the coupler ?
