I finished one side. It turned out pretty good. I will post some pictures as soon as I get the other side done. I am waiting on contact cement to dry now. I did royally screw up though. I was trying to be conservative in my turf usage because I wanted to have enough to do the dash and maybe the handpole. well it came back and bit me. I cut both sides the same and of course it was about and inch too short then. I just got off the phone with hydro-turf. hopefully I will get the other sheet soon. that was a $36 mistake. oh well live and learn I guess. I am going to go ahead and use the piece I had set aside for the bottom of the tray for the side since the sides are the hard part and I will use the new sheet when it gets here for the bottom. that way the hard part is done and the only thing left will be easy and quick.

Not to worry the turf takes a beating and will be scared in no time so it doesn’t need to be perfect.

its really not that bad of a project. its worth the time and money 100%.

ok and on the the pictures. turf is done other than the piece for the bottom of the tray. hopefully hydro-turf will get it to me asap. everything went pretty smooth. I was starting to get the hang of cutting the stuff after it was put on the ski by the end of this so next time I do it I think it will turn out better. one thing I did learn is that if you heat up the blade to the knife nice and hot it cuts the turf like butter. it makes the cuts nice and smooth.

I took the whole hood latch off and I decided to test fit it with turf under it rather than the little rubber gasket. it fits fine and the hood still latches right. I think this will give it a nice clean look and its a good excuse to spruce up the latch.

ok and the pictures

nice work, just wondering since you made a template for the cutout on the holds why you didn't make some paper templates for the turf install? you make the paper and then lay it out on the turf to make sure you have enough.

got excited and jumped ahead didn't ya? me too. no worries when its done everyone will still be impressed and now you have one under your belt.

I have turfed before, but it was just the precut stuff on a 91 sj. I couldn't make a template for this job. since I was going the no seem route it involved a lot of stretching and scrunching. it was just easier to do it without a template. paper just doesn't move like turf does.

I am still waiting on my turf so I decided to polish the b pipe up a bit. its not great but its a a lot junkin better than it was. it looked like some one took a dump on it. the pictures don't really do it justice. I wet sanded it to get it to a pre polished state. I used 220 grit sand paper to get the bulk of the oxidation off. then I used the little bit of 400 grit I had left. then I hit it hard with some 600 and then 1000. I could have spent some more time with the 1000 but it just wasn't worth it. now the pipe kind of looks out of place with the rest of the motor. I probably need to seal the pipe up with something now but I might see how it goes. this is a fresh water only boat.

alright all I have left is to
dscn3372ak4.jpg
finish the bilge and stick down the bottom piece of turf and I am ready to go. I did the pole pad today. the stock padding was so heavy and it was slightly water logged.

the dash are _ and the sides are | there not the same?!?

Nope they all run from left to right. It just looks like they are different because the sides themselves are perpendicular to the dash .

Look closely and notice how all of the diamonds point from left to right on the sides and the dash.

Think about this. If you were to lay the dash down flat on the ground and did the same with the sides then you would notice easily that all of the diamonds do in fact run from left to right in relation to the ski.

i c what your saying now.... but its not laying flat on the ground.. i guess in my mind i would have to flip the sides to make it look all the same....

Yeah, but if you flip the sides then once you put the tray turf in with the diamonds running from left to right then it will really look jacked up.
