specs for now are

2000 sj
riva ride plate
riva intake grate
stainless prop of unknown pitch
k&n flame arresters (not that thats a good thing. any one have the stockers they want to get rid of?)

well I brought home my new ski and I am going to cut some holes in it. I am putting a pair of R.E.V.s in for now. I also am waiting on the for the 5200 to cure and keep the attwood bilge in place. I don't really have any huge plans beyond that but I am sure that will change when I get some ride time on it. right now I am thinking of some sort of quick steer set up, but enough of the day dreaming. so far I have the turf all ripped up and the adhesive stripped. I did realize that there is a huge difference in 7 year old turf and 16 year old turf. my friends SJ was a nightmare to get the turf up, mine I could peel up with my hands almost in one whole piece. here are some pics of what I have done.

I used a heat gun to take the rubber moldings off then I heated up a scraper to sort of slice through the rest of the thick glue they left behind.

I found a slight cracked in the tray but the foot holds will take care of that I also found an air bubble under the paint under the rubber molding so I will have to fill that in.

the goof off worked alright but if I were to do it again I would look for something a bit stronger.

dscn3254gy3.jpg

I got it all cleaned up finally. took me a couple of sessions but its finally done.

dscn3255ak2.jpg

dscn3256hs2.jpg

now I have to prep for the glass work. the goof off left an oily residue. What should I use to clean the tray for the glass work? also do I need to rough the tray up for the turf? I want it to stick but I also want to be able to get it up in a few years if I need to.

there is stuff that body shops used... oil and grease remover for prepping before paint work it cleans the surface of all grease and residue.... as far as getting the turf to stick.... justr rough it up lightly with some 300 grit and you should be good to go

I made some more progress yesterday. The revs are a huge pain to install. they take a lot of time to fit up. It took me at least twice as long to get the revs in as it did to fit up the first holds I ever did. the exhaust problem should be fixed I think, that was a huge pain to sort out. any ways here are some more pictures.

I used my normal box method to make a template.
dscn3268ga5.jpg

I used a rotozip for all my cutting needs. you might get a couple extra cutters for these holds, I dulled 2 and I could have used a thrid by time I was done cutting and fitting these things.
dscn3269yc6.jpg

fitting up the right side is by far the toughest part of this install. I had to cut a pretty massive hole to get it to fit over the exhaust.
dscn3270di9.jpg

It took a lot of time to get these to fit up just right. I had to be very careful not to cut to much here so I could get a screw in on this side.
dscn3272fe5.jpg

these holds don't fit prefect by a long shot so it took some very precise trimming to get them in there. I am getting pretty close here.
dscn3273ic9.jpg

this isn't the best angle but you can see that these holds sit up about 2 inches higher than they should.
dscn3274bk7.jpg

I got the right hold all fitted up then I roughed up the edges around the massive hole I had to cut out for the exhaust. then I laid some wax paper over the exhaust and put the hold in with a couple screws and laid some glass over that. it worked pretty good but I still had to do a bit of banging and pulling to get it out. the epoxy leaked a but. I think its solid though and I don't think it will leak.I will lay some more glass over it when I glass in the holds.
dscn3277pb6.jpg

I got both holds fitted up and the tops trimmed so they are ready for some slightly less thick than peanut butter epoxy and filler to hold them in.
dscn3279ct8.jpg

they turned out pretty good. they fit a lot more flush than I expected they would when I first started fitting them.

next I need to grind down those screws when the epoxy is fully cured and sand down everything. then it will be ready for glass. hopefully I will have that done in a few days. I am still debating on going with the enclosures or not. I think my feet might feel a bit trapped so I might modify them a bit. I will play with it some.

If you countersink the screws before hand you wont need to grind them afterwords. I guess is 6 in one hand half a dozen in the other, but I like the piece of mind of having the screw heads still there. The Waterdawgs are a PIA to instal, but they look nice. Are you not using the enclosures?

I will probably use them, I haven't decided yet. I might cut them down a but so they don't trap my foot some much. the holds feel great as they are I don't think they need much more. the are super long though and it would look better to have some of that covered up. these holds are not made for big feet they are made for long feet. I wear a nine and they are not super rommy or anything. I don't think I will be able to get as much padding in there as I would like.

there is no way those are coming out. they are stainless. I stripped 2 as it is. there are about 3 more in each hold and now the epoxy is dried on them. I will try to get them out but I really don't see that happening.

I stupidly used phillip heads screws and then proceeded to fill the head with epoxy when I did my holds. I stripped about 3 on each side, but took my trusty dremel and slotted them and they came out super easy. It was a little extra work, but it made the fit and finish smooooth.

well I did some sanding and I got all but 3 screws out. I will do the glassing tomorrow I think. I have pretty much decided to leave the enclosures off. the only thing they would help is cosmetics and they would just eat up valuable tray space. unless some one who has them can give me a good reason to put them on I am going to leave them off.

Pull the screws out. I have never left the screws in the footholds.

No need for tray space you are on a SJ now your feet will be in the holds the entire time you ride so don’t worry about the tray space:biggthumpup: The only time you use the tray is to haul the cooler to the beach. As SXR-Lou said “I will talk to you now” LOL You need to come hit the waves in the Mississippi with us it’s a blast. The first time Speedfreak came up and hit the waves he was on cloud nine all day and could hardly walk the next. He found out real quick what ball slap was.

I'm sure I will get to meet you guys at some point this summer. I ride with one foot forward a lot. I guess I will find out if that changes when I get out there. I am going to glass it all up today.

thanks man. I want to have it all done by april 1 and I don't want to have to rush it. I just don't know that the 5200 I used for the bilge will be dry before next spring....

I stuck some padding on today. I used the rotozip to get rid of some of the bulk of the padding and got it close to the right shape. then I used the sander to get it right. its tough to tell what this will look like under the turf but I think it will flow pretty good. I might get to the turf tonight if the ole wifey will lend a hand.
