I'm making the PFP plunge. The only reason I didn't initially get it was because of the limited size of tank you could run. I rarely run more than 2.5 gallons but occasionally need to. (Oceanside, Jack London) I'd like to design a bigger one using the unique geometry as efficient as possible. My goal is 4 gallons. I'm unsure if it's reachable/feasible since I currently don't have one available to measure. I would like to request some help. Could I get a few people to measure out the dimensions they have available length and width wise for a gas tank between their PFP w/waterbox. If you could measure every inch or so both ways (Front to back and side to side) that'd give me a fairly close idea of the curves I have to worry about. I'd also like to get a height measurement too. Let me know what hull you have too, not that it should matter too much, but just in case there's any difference. There's a few other ways to measure it I'm sure, whatever works for you will work for me. I'll make a rough cad drawing with enough room to allow for pipe movement and general "Not everyone's PFP will have the same available area" variance. Then send it to a marine tank maker for a rough estimate on roto molding. If it's feasible cost wise, I'll cut out a foam mock up by hand and test for clearance. I should be able to get a test clearance on a Backie Chan, BobG3, Hurricane, and a Rok. Once that's done, I'll modify my CAD drawing if needed and send an order to the manufacturer. They may be able to make a mold out of my foam mock up. I'd like to incorporate the standard Yamaha style fuel cap, although not necessarily needed if it increases manufacturing costs too much. If and when I'm ready to order, I wouldn't mind ordering with a few other people if they're interested. Major limiting factor is cost, so if the estimate is too much (which I honestly think it is tooling up the mold since I can't find any ballpark numbers anywhere online), I may not consider. If anybody has any knowledge on molding, hit me with some knowledge.
