Should I remove the bond lip on the rear? I know its essential on the rest of the ski however it seems a lot of people cut it off the rear when they do a wide tray/chop.

I glassed in the rear with two layers of 1708. Who says duct tape cant fix everything.

Two layers considering the softish backing. Once it cures I will remove the tape, sand and put a few more layers on the inside to thicken it up. I will also grind out the pooled resin and put a layer or two on the outside so I can have extra material so I can fare any ripples out. Once its sanded true on the outside I will cover it in some cloth for a smooth finish. I need it to be pretty beefy back there, I have exhaust, scupper, and some SS tie downs popping through. I am shooting for at least 1/4 thick but may go a bit thicker.

Its an auxiliary building at my business. We dont use it for dogs anymore, the other building is more updated.

I sanded the outside flat and it got pretty thin in spots so I added 5 layers of 1708 on the outside. Ill trim it and cap it with 8oz cloth.

I trimmed and ground the excess glass. I am really happy with the way it turned out. it is super beefy and I wont think twice attaching the ski to the trailer with the SS U hooks I am putting back there. The dremel attachment pictured really works well and made my job a lot easier.

I decided to start addressing the dash. I needed to not only bridge the gap but also add back some much needed structure. I also needed to add a bunch of glass to the gunwales since I am making them adjustable foothold ready.

I started by cutting up some templates for a support pillar. Since there is a lot less stucture than stock I figured it needed to be beefy. The dash will tie into the pillar.





I filled the bond line with Cabosil and Glass bubbles.



Then I installed the pillar which is 6 layers and put a strip over the bond line.


I also Filled the gaps up at the top of the hull and fared the pillar in with cabosil.



I then layed 5 layers of 1708 on the gunwales.



And one layer for now on the upper engine bay.





Doing the right side tomorrow and hopefully tying the dash in on Sunday.

So are you doing anything in between sets of epoxy? I know you can’t just do epoxy over epoxy because the amine blush will prevent it from bonding. Are you using peelply or something or just washing between sessions?

Im not letting it set up completely between sets. Just letting it tack up for a couple of hours then going again. When I let it cure all the way I acetone sand then acetone to make sure it will bond.

I know acetone doesn’t work with epoxy. Look up amine blush. Only epoxy does it and acetone doesn’t get rid of it. Just hot water and soap. Sanding makes it worse because it just grinds it in.
Wash first then sand.
