I'll just take them out, glass them properly, and put them back in and save the money on shipping.

Exactly, you can fix it yourself for cheaper than the postage both ways would run.
If anything, they should be replaced with a new set (hopefully made thicker now) and not have to mail back the crappy cheapo busted ones.

This is a perfect time to go with a lighter foam subsutute and reinforce the outside of the gunwales. ping pong balls, empty plastic coke bottles, DOW foam panel pieces, etc. I'll be doing that over the winter.

i was just talking about this with slutty last week...

if and when I defoam again I will be using plastic coke bottles and polystyrene

No need for the plastic bottles unless you just want to make it less solid. Polystyrene on end is some decent sturdy stuff when stepping on it from above if you layer and pack it in tightly. I used it when I rebuilt my sn.

im really curious about this too
i would love to use the bottles
it seems the smaller ones would be better than the 2 liters though , like you could pack them in tighter

With a superjet, I would keep foam in it.

They need the support. Nurse, I hope your not planning on doing anything crazy in the middle of riding season! Just let it drain and patch it back up, it'll get ya through until winter. How much water came out?

put some glass on it for right now so you don't ruin your riding season , then when the season is over, take your ski apart, remove all the wet foam ,stick some empty coke bottle in the back in there and then you'll receive a nice little present in the mail from Santa Steve lol

pull the turf back a little and patch it. there is no reason for this to kill any ride time. remember, riding is the most important part!

To do it right, you need to pull the foothold at least to reinforce it on the back side so it will hold up. I do agree, patch it for now to get by with. I also understand now about having to do repairs in mid season. Darin has 3 kids, I have 1. It can be hard enough at times to find the time to go ride, let along spend hours fixing a ski......

You guys have to realize I ride just about all year long even in Kentucky. I have a very nice drysuit...plus go to Daytona in mid-January.

I would ride it, but I still have to pull the turf off to fix the things.

Steve, I like you, but man, please make stronger footholds, this is ridiculous. Footholds are part of the hull, and they should be strong. I shouldn't have to cover the entire thing in biax to prevent cracking, and I sure as heck shouldn't have to redo them after barely 2 seasons of mostly flatwater riding.

I'm going to rip the ski apart now.

Idok please explain for us (me) lesser informed individuals how are you refoaming with coke bottles, ping pong balls etc.??
I am cornfoosed!!! :sad2:

defoam ski....fill in cavity with 20oz coke bottles (or 2 liters)..ping pong balls for the tight areas

or use polystyrene (regular styrofoam) and cut to fit..

No need for the plastic bottles unless you just want to make it less solid. Polystyrene on end is some decent sturdy stuff when stepping on it from above if you layer and pack it in tightly. I used it when I rebuilt my sn.

just reinforce the tray and use 24mm padding..problem solved

if you can break thru 1" padding and 10 layers of good glasswork, you are the man!

the foothold is broken severely.

I ride the most during summer...

As for the garage, I have a blower from our old furnace that works wonders, and it's only 83F out today with a nice breeze after raining last night, it's beautiful and a good time to be outside.

BTW, when it's cooler, the foam doesn't expand as well.

Did I mention I might repaint too? This current paint job I did in 3 days from stripping to riding and that's base/clear coat paint.

I correct myself, I did not glass all the way in the bottom, however, there is foam all the way around where the foothold is/was.
