My 2 cents-

With this sport and alot of other sports-the highs are REAL high and the lows are REAL low. I raced mx for a loooong time and have now been off bikes for 3 years and riding my SJ only. I have had some VERY frustrating moments with skis. Learning new tricks is easy for some and pure hell for others. The more I modify my ski, the more I wrench on it (and the learning curve that goes with it). When I am riding good and the ski is running good-I wouldn't trade that moment for anything, when I am bad and or the ski is bad-I would do anything to sell out.

Bottom line is-the highs wouldnt be highs if it werent for the lows!

I'm 36 and just threw out a disc or two in my lower back riding yesterday. By far the worst pain I've experienced...and I've had 6 bulged discs simultaneously before. This one is just really bad for some reason. Top of my right thigh is numb. I had tears in my eyes this morning just trying to put socks on. Took me 10 minutes to roll out of bed.

but the thought of selling my skis never crossed my mind. I'm trying to decide what day this week and I can go back out. Hmmm....I think I just realized that I am seriously addicted to this sport...

The funny thing about Gil's comment is that my 2 skis were the only ones running good yesterday...if I would have quit when everyone else's pooped the bed I wouldn't have gotten hurt!

Sorry to hear about your injury and you predicament there Crab. I showed up out there yesterday to get some bars from Suva. I saw your ski and asked where you were. Dayton got the text saying shattered just then, and that sucks. Hope your recover is fast and painless.

My step-dad (64) rides his Kawi in all flat-water and still loves it. If you've determined surf is to rough for you, I'd advise to give up that aspect. Don't give up the sport all together.

I'll put my two cents in,when I worked at the Seadoo stealership an 85 y/o man came in one day,he had a 550 Jet ski on a trailer that he wanted to trade in on a Seadoo,I figure if that old man can still ride at 85 that I have a few good years left in me.

i ride surf every weekend with a guy in his 60's.just take it easy.gil said it best.the highs wouldnt be as high if the lows werent so low.thats what i like about this sport.it really takes determination and passion to do it with any regularity.which in turn weeds out the chumps:shhh:

That's a solid response, Wilkey. I'm hoping the same thing, which is why I won't let the old man sell anything for a year.

(he's hell to live with when he's in "regret" mode)

In between every "damn, man, I broke my arm", there's a "dude, you shoulda seen that roll!" :brap:

Have no fear... the wife is going to make him hold the skis for at least a year before he attempts to liquidate.

I learned last year that lots of weird stuff comes out of his mouth while he's on pain meds. When the cast comes off he'll be the same old Crab.

Problem here is i like going big, too much....

It really doesn't have to be 'go big or don't go'. Maybe you need to refrain from going big and only let yourself go medium, or maybe small. To me, I'd rather go small than not at all (Crab's new mantra?).

Sounds like you have a good wife that really understands you. It's good she's going to make you sit on the fence for a while. Maybe all this quitting talk is just the opiates speaking.
