Blaster Rick's Detailed 1100 Blaster Conversion

Nice looking build!!! I am up in the OC and ride mission bay every once in awhile. Just picked up a pair of Kawi 1100s and getting ready to do the same swap to a couple of blasters as well (although on a tighter budget). Would love to come check yours out next time I'm down that way! Hopefully we can get a few of them out on the water this summer!

I have heard of drying out the pipe but looking for a how to...if you have a link or post about it here that would be awesome!

Ah, did you get those two skis over by Palm Springs?

You can do this on a budget. Assuming you have the complete Blaster hull and an 1100 donor ski (or complete motor & elec) all you need is the adapter plate(s) $300, correct pitch prop $250 new. The water box kit or mod ($300) is highly recommended, if you didn't save the rear exhaust off the donor ski (duh - like me) then you need a rear exhaust kit ($125).

Here is a quick overview of the dry pipe mod.

The top portion of the chamber has a brass fitting for the water line. That is on the outside part of the pipe jacket, you remove that. You'll see in the pic, I put a flashlight to show the hole on the inside jacket. That needs to be plugged. Some weld it closed. I will install a screw with JB weld to plug it. Then I will put in a brass plug fitting on the outside jacket.

Then you add a sprayer to the end of the chamber (drill a hole and tap threads). I bought a spray tip from Watcon. It is similar to the sprayer on the Superjet Type 4 dry pipe. I have seen others use just a brass fitting and wedge in a carburetor jet.

Nice! Thank you for the info on the pipe! Yes we snagged the pair out in palm springs...got him down a little more and got a pretty good deal for the pair on the trailer. They are both complete skis right now and the motors are like new, perfect compression, and run great (we dropped them in elsinore on the way home). Ya that is my plan, would like to figure out a waterbox setup without spending that much money but its looking more and more like its prob just worth it to buy the rad dudes one.

I saw those on craislist in Cathedral City. Looked like a good deal.

Need some input on handle bars.

I have used the standard aftermarket bars with the UMI steering kit, but I see many are using ProTaper and other types of bars. They look wider which I don't know if I want or need but can you guys chime in and let me know what aftermarket bars you are using on your blasters and what you like about them?

any updates? getting ready to start building one of ours! Looks like you went with the solas mag pump, what did you end up going with for a prop? Do you know if all the existing blaster cables / controls work? Trying to figure out if theres anything we need on top of the complete rad dudes kit and correct prop. Would like to have everything ready and bust it out quick!

Thanks for asking MXR181. My project was a bit delayed due to the paint job took over 2 months. Man, what a PITA. So I just got the hull back before memorial day weekend from the painter. There were some blemishes he had to redo/ fix.

Yes I went with the solas pump but have yet to put it together. The prop is a steep Hooker prop from impros. I'm planning on using the stock steering cable. I have the stock nozzle, but also two drop nozzle kits. I'm not sure which one I'l use. Stay tuned.

Look for some major updates and posts this weekend! :)

Do yourself a MAJOR favor, DO NOT use the stock steering cable. It will eventually bend and changing it with the 1100 in the hull is a pain in the a$$.

Bummer on the paint job! Mine still has pretty clean original gelcoat / graphics so I'm gonna stick with the original look but with black seat cover. Prob going to pull the donor ski apart this weekend and get ready to start throwing it together!

Scottie what cable would you use? I think I've read about using a b2 steering cable but I haven't dug into it much. Does it work as is?
