OCD: I am ready to pull the trigger on the RLK16-800B8 as soon as they notify me by email that it is available. Is there anyway I can give you an "at-a-boy" with them?

Also thank you to the link for Guardline Security. I am thinking about installing one of these setups in both the inside of the house and the inside of the garage. Motion sensor, Strobe Light, and Siren. Now we are talkin'!

I figured you would like that.

One of the old VHS Time Lapse Video systems I had back in the day had all kinds of sensor inputs and relay outputs built right into it. Those types of features seem to have been dropped off in the past decade.

I posted these pics of a Crane Fly on our “Turtle Island” Facebook page and tagged Reolink so they shared my post to their US and Cambodia pages so we got over 8k likes in a single day.

Boyer, I continue to learn new $h!t from you every day. My entire life I thought that insect in your pic was a male mosquito. It's what I had been taught, incorrectly apparently, as a child and had never questioned. I was told the males were huge(as in your pic) yet did not bite and the females were smaller but were blood suckers ...which does make perfect sense if you think about it. After seeing your post and researching it, my world has been flipped upside down. Although it is true the male mosquitos do not bite, they are actually smaller than the females. But the deal about the females being out for blood remains as true in the insect world as it is in the human world. Thanks for the insight!!

We were raised calling them Gnat's up North and it wasn't till I moved to the south and experienced sand gnats's that I really questioned what they actually were.

One of the comments on FB was how beautiful the dragonfly is so we aren't the only ones who have it misidentified, lol.

I have used this setup to lay out residential systems before but I rigged up this today for field verification of camera placements at work.

Mag mounted Reolink C2 Pro powered off a USB adapter and Milwaukee battery. One magnet on the base of the camera itself and another on a stand-off pipe to cover off just about every mounting location possible.

I set up a temporary WiFi hotspot and went around the mill with my laptop and dialed everything in for each location. The C2 Pro is a PTZ so you can bang up the camera and fine tune the image from the laptop before taking a screenshot or two.

I had 9 locations picked out using my iPhone to capture the intended field of view but this method made me relocate 3 of the cameras to get the optimum view.

Our neighborhood got hit early this morning so I’ve been pulling footage trying to get something to identify them with.

They hit 3 neighborhoods within our development that we are aware of and got into at least a dozen vehicles.

They parked in front of our house and spent 14 minutes on our street.

Any of the images clear enough to make out a tag?

Side note: Did you ever end up playing with the motion sensing on your cameras? Still have been slacking with configuring it on my setup.

Even with 4K cams, we still couldn’t get any details worth mentioning. You can’t see the plate but you can get the make and model of the car, as well as a front plate that may help ID a particular car if they have it narrowed down to a suspect.

I am happy to report that my motion alerts did pick up the guys coming and going.

I have messed with all my motion settings since we last discussed and my false alarms are greatly reduced. Even better, Reolink just added a feature on the mobile app to review just the alarm events so I was able to take advantage of the new feature immediately.

I don’t subscribe to motion alerts from all my cameras but I still have the motion settings dialed in for each of them.

I am still waiting for Reolink to notify me that the RLK16-800B8 is available (wait a minute, I think it is available to purchase now...) and I was going to ask so I might as well ask you now does Reolink have or is there a compatible license plate detection camera out there?

I'm still waiting on the 16CH standalone 4K NVR too.

Does a true license plate camera exist or is that more a camera placement issue? It needs to be low and ignore the glare from headlights and reflective plates.

We discussed installing a camera below our mailbox on our old house to attempt to capture license plates for just such an occasion but it didn't really make sense at that address. USPS doesn't allow individual mailboxes anymore, (since 2006 apparently?), so that plan went out the window with the new house. I guess I could camouflage one into a bird feeder or something but it would look goofy and out of place and trigger my OCD constantly.

FYI, they were able to apprehend one suspect based on the pics and video I posted to the Pooler Police Facebook page and our HOA homepage. My wife texted me a few minutes ago all excited because it was re-posted on the Pooler Police page and featured on WTOC this morning.

Meanwhile, more than a dozen of our 225+ neighbors with Nest or Ring doorbells reported that their cameras picked up nothing. Further backing up my argument that recording 24/7 is the only way to go! Now, I still like the doorbell cameras and wish we had one as well, but nothing beats 24/7 coverage.

It apparently IS available:

https://reolink.com/product/rlk16-800b8/

POE License plate detection camera $659:

POE License plate detection camera $199:

It is your property. My guess is that you can have a "mail" box on a post, just don't expect the USPS to put mail into it. Maybe for your local newspaper or maybe for nothing but a camera...

For a good use of bird boxes for security cameras I recommend the action, yes action, movie "The Accountant."

I was on the email list for the new 4K dome cameras and saw them available by chance on fb, ordered a pair, received them in the mail, (overnight from Amazon), and had them installed for a week before I got the email that they were available.

Although to be fair, I did place my order within 2 hrs of the official launch.

I see that RLK16-800B8 4K 16-Channel PoE Security Camera System is available and I am ready to purchase.

But McDonalds uses HIKVision. HIKVision (and likely Reolink also) Red Communist China companies, but I will buy from them even though they will have access to all my video...

Did you ever look at HIKVision?

If so how do you think they compare?

I can pick up the license plates on my cars in the driveway with my reolink, but only when NOT using the night vision mode (reflects when night vision is on) The plate is also about 20ft away from the camera..

Going back and reviewing video is painful and slow and it alerts anytime the light changes or the wind blows.. Thing I use it most for is putting the camera on the tv so i can watch the kids while they play outside.

I will be replacing 2 Hikvision NVR's with this new Avigilon system in just a couple weeks and 3 more over the next year as we get into phase 2 of our project.
The picture quality is decent enough but I haven't played with the software much. I struggled to review any footage but part of that was my inexperience with the software, part was our shabby old network and the rest was the fact that whomever set it up, only recorded on motion so I was missing huge gaps in the period I was trying to review.

I'm also not familiar with the component cost of the Hikvision systems.

Quinc are you happy with the Reolink:

1. PC laptop/desktop monitoring?
2. Mobile phone monitoring?
I have Reolink at home and from my phone I can pull it up. At work we had cameras installed and over half the time I go to pull up on phone and it will not load or takes a long time to load............

I should also mention, my work blocks all the remote apps so I can’t ever view my cams from the PC or App unless I switch from their WiFi to cellular.
