Security surveillance camera

Even with 4K cams, we still couldn’t get any details worth mentioning. You can’t see the plate but you can get the make and model of the car, as well as a front plate that may help ID a particular car if they have it narrowed down to a suspect.

I am happy to report that my motion alerts did pick up the guys coming and going.

I have messed with all my motion settings since we last discussed and my false alarms are greatly reduced. Even better, Reolink just added a feature on the mobile app to review just the alarm events so I was able to take advantage of the new feature immediately.

I don’t subscribe to motion alerts from all my cameras but I still have the motion settings dialed in for each of them.
Any tips/suggestions when setting up the motion settings or is it just trial and error?

Swapping out one of our construction cams today. Old one is a single band, replacement is dual band so it can connect to either AT&T or Verizon.

OCD et al.: what is the difference between the Reolink "B" series and the D" series

E.G., RLK16-800B8 vs RLK16-800D8 ?

And is this available now? If it is not available now, why? And should I be concerned that it is not?

Is it what I should buy or is there something better? I know I want PoE but also having WiFi capability is probably not a bad idea as well.

To all: Nest is now pushing me to move to Google. When I sign in, it requires 2-step verification by entering a code within 5 minutes sent from Google to an email address. Telephone call to Nest support says that 2-step verification can only be avoided if I migrate my account from Nest to Google. Just a head's up to everybody. Google is the most evil company on the planet. They want to bring their gps tracking from China to implement it in the USA. I am migrating away from Nest/Google.

HIKVision has horrible reviews. Same for Duhua.

As of now, ALL security cameras except for a few high-end DOD/Homeland Security approved high expense security systems and cameras are made in China or have Chinese made components. China is the most evil nation of the planet. They want to and have actually already bought their way into every significant company in the USA including universities, civil defense companies, as well as nearly all politicians by using their USA based/Chinese owned companies to legally contribute campaign money to the politicians, especially to Democrats but also to Republicans.

Reolink is a Chinese company. Which means that it is owned and directed by the Chinese Communist Party. But it has good user reviews. So, for now I am going with Reolink.

OCD et al., please help me out.

B is for bullet, D is for dome.

If its not available, its just out of stock.

I cant help you with any of the conspiracy theories.

A theory is something which is unproven. Later, I can help you with the conspiracy facts.

In return for your help with the security cameras.

I think I need bullet cameras for outdoor.

Is the RLK16-800B8 what you would buy now if you started all over?

Thank you for your help.

Yes to the 4K 16ch NVR with bullet cams but I would snag at least 2 domes for our patio and front doors. Just depends on where you are mounting them.

Side of the house = bullets
Under the soffit or large flat surfaces = domes.

I believe the dome has a slightly wider field of view as well.

You know, based on your suggestion, I have 5 gable end walls each two story. Wouldn't dome cams mounted vertically focused down and out be better there?

And I would like to point a cam each down both the front deck and the back deck. Likely placed in trees. (The thugs stole the Nest cam I had under the first story eaves pointed down the back deck when they stole four saws out of the garage via a side door.) I would also like a bullet cam focused on the three approaches as well out into the woods.

I am happy you are figuring out your Tig machine. And that a friend is helping. Your machine looks like allot of knobs. The spool gun for my Millermatic 350P is more expensive than your stand alone Tig set up. And since I can't afford the spool gun I have put off learning to weld aluminum. Good for you buddy!

I may draw up a plan view by hand and send it to you via PM for your suggested camera type and location if you don't mind. No liability is incurred by helping me if you chose to help me.

Both cameras will mount almost anywhere and look good so I really don’t think you can go wrong. They do come with a short wiring harness that you will likely want to be hidden.

The bullet has a smaller mounting flange so it will fit in tighter places and it will articulate more. The dome is a lower profile and has a large flange that will cover a hole big enough to fit the harness through if you decide to hide the harness behind the mounting surface.

If you don’t want to drill big holes, Reolink makes a surface mount pancake box for doing this but I think other standard PVC type round boxes will work as well.

Update after some use with the Guardline motion sensors:

Pros:
Well built
Excellent range
Simple setup
Does not depend on wifi
Highly adjustable motion sensors (range, beam width, etc)
This would be an excellent portable system (as long as you had A/C power available for the base station) You could quickly set up a perimeter with the sensors and you're good to go. So this would be great to take on vacation with your skis/truck/bikes, etc to set off with motion alerts with a 500' range.
Each motion zone chime/alert tone can be changed when different sensors are activated.
Up to 16 sensors can be used on one base station.

Cons:
Since it's not connected to wifi, you have to have the base station with you and plugged in (battery is good for 5 min for transport)
Once positioned the motion sensors are easily moved, bumped out of position - I could probably crank them down somehow, but I'm not going to mess with them.

I bought this to alert me when someone comes up my driveway or out on my second driveway (120' away) where I park my truck and ski trailers. The fact that it doesn't connect to wifi and doesn't alert my phone is going to be a deal killer for me. I'm not going to carry the base station around with me while home in my 2 story house. The idea was to be able to look at my Reolink cameras once notified of a motion alert. So I just bought a ring doorbell instead. If the ring setup works for me, I'll be selling this thing for cheap if anyone wants to try it.

We used ours when we moved and put the sensor in the cab of our moving van overnight. We made sure we got a hotel room close enough to pick up the sensor.

I’m pretty sure you can connect the sensors to multiple receivers and get alerts in multiple places at the same time.

I wonder how long before they get with the times and add some kind of smart interface for smart alerts and home automation.

The fact that it doesn't rely on wifi was a selling point for me. I wanted to fool myself and think that I would be satisfied with something that didn't rely on the net...

My IT guy hooked his up to a smart things sensor and has it sending him alerts that way.

I need to ask him what kind of a delay that system has. I have a stand-alone ADT system that just monitors for windows and water leaks. I could easily add a similar sensor and get it online and test it out.

Anything new to report on this front?

After waiting almost a full year, Reolink has just released their 16ch 4K NVR so I was finally able to get all my cameras back onto one single NVR instead of having to run a pair of 8CH units.

They have also just released a new line of cameras with AI that can supposedly detect people and cars and send appropriate alerts. If this works even half as good as they say, it will be a huge step forward for them and we can all finally put an end to false alerts from insects, headlights and weather changes.

I missed out on the first round but managed to order one of the new AI Bullets a few days ago to test out on our driveway.
I will hold out for them to release a dome version before I upgrade the cams on our entrances. Those are the three main cams where I want positive detection so fingers crossed it works.
