Other So two years ago who would have thought

ross.. you make a good point, the challenge will be building a boat with after market parts and keeping costs under control, these days custom builds are outa the reach of most guys especially newbs lookin to get in,we would need this to continue to get bigger rather than smaller. The biggest thing that killed all skis including couches in general was technology, granted they are far better, but not everyone can afford a 15k ski, back in the day you could get most skis for a few thousand, thats why everyone and their brother had one. we just live in a different time, the manufactures have themselves to thank for that, nice cars are getting less expensive and selling better again, skis wont see that day again until something sim happens

the project i am working on with some guys with some forward thought that i was telling you about,is taking that thinking and making affordable power that alot more can obtain pushing towards the future you speak of.......

Meanwhile I am seriously looking at buying a couple of 55 gallon drums of two stroke oil, it doesn't go bad and would be nice to have just in case.

I was not suggesting building skis with aftermarket parts, I was suggesting that a small scale production run would allow a company to build/source their own parts. And that for a company that was already in the aftermarket part business it would not be a huge leap for them to transition to building complete boats in this manner. The components to build our boats are surprisingly cheap if you can have them built in any kind of volume, but tooling up to do that is neither cheap or easy. But it is easy enough to get around all the USCG and other regulations by selling completed "kit" boats.

Anyway, there is a market out there that is far larger than these forums that is still buying and is very passionate about standups.

Are they ceasing production of the standups or just not selling them in the united states anymore?

I'm not really sure what their status is, I'm pretty sure they still exist in some capacity as HSR Benelli but I'm not sure what their future plans are. The site is a place holder now http://www.benelli-group.com/ Regardless, I would not have considered them a good recreational ski. Great race boat when they were using the weber motor and if they were properly maintained, I have no experience with any of the Benelli powered boats and don't know enough about them to comment. In any event they were not super user friendly and not at all for our crowd.

I know thats what your talking about, there are so many aftermarket parts made for the sj and stocked by blowsion it seems buying them in bulk for builds would be cheaper than a major tooling effort to produce everything in house, assuming the #s of sold units are within reason. I agree if things keep going like they are, that could very well be the case in the next 5 yrs,if its affordable enough to truly mass market is the ?

X2 I'm curious about this also. Since we already know Yamaha will continue to make the Super Jet (although it will be unregisterable for racers, easy enough to get around) I'm curious about Kawasaki SXR's. Does kawasaki plan on discontinuing them altogether or will they still be available in other countries?

At least there's comfort in knowing that even though Super Jets will no longer be sold for recreational use that the parts will still be made. I can grandfather my ski for another 20-30yrs

A turnkey RRP or Trinity or Superfreak or XScream or Blowsion boat...with a Glass hull slightly lighter and stronger than a SJ and with the power of a B Piped 800 for about $9500 would be very hard to pass up. Unfortunately, It would probably have to be Chinese or Korean to make it affordable.

I think making them all the same is what would make this possible. If there is a way to make it work in the surf and on flat, that would rock too. I would love to buy a brand new reliable turnkey boat.

The only issue, is everyone wants something different with their boat. Compromises will have to be made...(it won't be a perfect flatwater freestyle boat, or a perfect surf boat, or a perfect cruiser) but basically a best of all worlds ski, lighter and more powerful than a sj with footholds, pipe, installed.

Back to the Noobs that want to get in.... two years ago I wouldn't have guessed that i'd own a stand-up, much less be on my 4th FX1 and hoping to pull off my first backflip this season on one. No way I would have guessed that.

Big fan of this sport and the people who support it. Hate being a noob, but it is what it is. I tell all my friends about riding, try to get them all to buy a stand up.
