I think this is true here too.

Despite a flooded lake, expensive gas and a rainy spring, I have seen more skis locally than ever before.

interesting observation.

You need to move to Florida for the year round bumper boats. I think the fuel and economy have maybe helped the ski industry. I Know it sounds crazy, but I've seen more jet skis in the water and being trailered in my area than I have in several years. People are buying smaller boats and pwc at least in my area. And that is backed by two larger dealerships I know. People will always gravitate to the water. If they can't afford 20-40+ gal. an hour burn they will cut back and splash on something smaller.

What I have seen going on here is that people are dragging out boats that haven't been run in two ,three or four years, the gas prices do seem to actually be helping the industry. Its been an interesting year thus far because nothing that comes in here ran last year, lots and lots of carb cleaning and fuel line replacement, lots of new batteries being sold and lots of jet pump repairs.Anyone in the biz knows that quick service is the bread and butter of the business, anything that you can turn and burn in a couple of days is good.Major engine jobs pay well enough but you have disassembly, then you have to box it up ,order parts, have cylinders bored, unbox it ,then reassemble, all this while you are tripping over a dead boat and usually two boats because its on a double trailer.I personally will take quick service over engine building any day of the week, making over a $1000.00 a day is not unheard of this time of year with a steady supply of boats coming in..

I can tell you that boats here are NOT going out like normal because of gas prices.....and none are selling either. Heck, diesel is $4.50 a gallon here...or more.

All my freinds with sailboats are grinning from ear to ear..

THey still FAIL though, since they have to drive 45 minutes to get to the marina that houses them.

Some of the guys are still going offshore to go fishing....spending 700-800 bucks on GAS and catching 1 or 2 fish(or none at all)....just go buy that crap at the store!!!! :twak: so stupid!

the guy across from us gets a 1/2 mile to the GALLON!!!! that is nuts! needless to say it isn't going anywhere this summer:skull2:

a girl was telling me the other day they gassed up her boyfreinds boat, twin 454 engines ( some sort of baja 30ish feet long)

and it was $400+ and didnt even top the tanks off...

that just seems silly to me, eventually a penile enlargement surgery becomes the cheaper alternative to those guys.

sailing is cool. Any douche can get behind the wheel of a power boat.

I hope to sail around the world before I turn 40....or at least get started on our trip :highhorse::bigok:
