Square 2 XFT Conversion

Finally got the rest of my XFT parts including the topdeck and nose mold. I went ahead and fit the nose mold with the topdeck laying on. I was told to use about five layers of biaxial on the mold. I decided to go with 2 biaxial and about four carbon fiber. I reinforced a few areas in the front topdeck including the handpole area with carbon fiber. It is amazing how light this topdeck is. I would guess after the few reinforcements that it will be no more then 13lbs. I weighed the bottom deck with a layer of carbon fiber on the bottom Tubbies, exhaust , scupper and strap hardware installed at about 62 lbs. I am hoping to be at 85lbs with footholds, 2lb foam and innerwall reinforcements,(HOPING!)

It's nuts the first time you pick it up, isn't it? I remember when mine came in and I picked it up I was like "WHAT?". You'll LOVE how strong that hull is (where the divynicell is). I would strongly advice laying another layer or two over the areas on the nose and rear gunwales where he didn't put divinycell. - oops, just saw your second set of pictures. You should be all set!

You'll love the hull once it's complete.
Nice build!

Yeah Freestylegeek, I saw your post on Dslickers build and figured I better go ahead and reinforce those areas. I have actually bonded the top on, I did it last night and all turned out well. There was no teeter at all, and the nose mold was lining right up. Figured I would go ahead and do 2 biaxial and 1 carbon fiber on the sides and that should be plenty, since I used way more carbon on the nose then I thought I had left for the sides. But I want it to be as strong as possible.

I used West Epoxy resin with 206 hardener and 406 filler and made it real thick so I could apply it by putting it in a freezer bag and cutting the corner, (piping it on) kind of like someone who would decorate a cake. I couldn't find any empty caulking tubes.

At a mason supply, or brick distrubutor they sell funnel shaped plastic bags for doing just that, and won't break. They are for squeezing mortar in around brick and rock. Marine supplies place should have empty caulking tubes for your choice of compounds.

That's what geek did on his and I'm planning on doing on mine as well.

Do you want your screen-name changed? I can take care of that.
