haha i remember seeing that ski. i offered to buy that head. usually when theres a A/M head, the motor is usually taken care of pretty well. is it missing anything that you can see?

The guy that bought it from me before my friend bought it didn't cover the intake and exhaust ports on the motor when it was stored

I'm going to pretend you didn't say that and then be really surprised when it's rusty. lol

I have dinner plans here in 30 so I'll have to continue the tear down later tonight.
I have also realized that I have only taken a 2 hour nap between 6am Wednesday and right now. might need some coffee but damn I'm dedicated!

So yeah there is water in the engine. But nothing is rusty because it's mixed with oil, so it has like a slime in places. Anyone ever see this? Also that head is brand new it doesn't even have a water spot in the water jacket.

I wouldn't run a crank that's been sitting in water even if there's oil mixed in with it lol. Not worth the risk. 35 cc domes, depending on your elevation, usually run near 185 PSI I believe.

Gracias! I do t really know what compression ratio is yet but I am at 650 above sea level so what octane usually doEs that require?

Yeah I'm not using the crank, that's a rookie move. How would You go about cleaning the cases? My plan was to clean as well as possible and then spray some oil on it to keep it from surface rust.

Can still use pump gas, premium 93 octane. I'm not sure about cleaning the cases. Someone else will chime in about that.
They're aluminum, so they won't rust. If you've got rust on them, it's from the crank.

you should get around 170-180psi, and running 91 octane will be fine. if your over 190psi, 93+ is required. that head is brand new for sure!

for the cases i use a razor blade to clean the surfaces and brake cleaner to clean the actual cases inside and out. a spray of WD 40 will keep them clean but if they are indoors they wont corrode.

grab a jetmaniac crank. they are like $200 for a rebuilt brand new bearing crank. id also suggest him for seals. run only OEM crank seals

JM crank is $249 shipped and it's a $35 credit if you send him your old one I believe. JM is your go to parts guy for sure for everything you will need to rebuild that bad boy!

Awesome thanks guys. I'll be hitting up jet maniac for some goodies that's for sure. Reeds and cages looked new almost which was weird. Haven't opened the carbs yet but I'm assuming more of the same. I opened the stator cover and that was time capsule clean in there.

hold the reeds up to a light and look from the inside. if you see light, grab a new set to be safe.

my correction on the cranks, they are 249, 290 to us canadians. JetManiac was fast and on time with my order. something some people need to work on! Id buy from him again any time.

whats your pump plans?
