I guess that depends on how big you go!

Got any pictures ??:laugh2:

A few years ago me and a friend thought we could backflip on a 1 foot wave in 1 foot of water. Falling over backards and getting mushed into the sand by the ski didn't feel quite right but we thought we were bad a$$. Wish there was a camera out there that day.
no but idok, butti, yamaslut and others were there.

Sweet as ill just get what ever I get then . What kind of damage does it do to the hull if you land flat instead of nose first?
Referring to the Square nose.
Cracks in the tray area where you stand usually on the right side(standing at rear of ski looking at nose) due to gaps in the foam that don't properly support around exhaust pipe. The back of the engine compartment in the corners from hull flexing and then cracking this takes a while (you can drop off from a head high wave a few hundred times to flat) if you surf ride without flipping and rolling. The cracks in the tray happen pretty quick if not reinforced. Also if you do not reinforce stock pole bracket and run support plate underneath you will break pole bracket and crack the hull.

think of it this way... if you cracked the side of the SN hull on the 5th 3/4 roll (which you might, you could crack it on the fist attempt) you'd probably crack a RN on the 6th, 7th or 8th 3/4 roll. Both hulls need reinforcement if you're trying to learn rolls. I probably had a couple dozen 3/4 rolls before I cracked my reinforced RN. 3/4 rolls are brutal on hulls. It's probably the worst thing other than hitting bottom you can do to a ski.

The difference I have found is that with my SN I had several what I would call catastrophic blowouts of the top deck where on my RN usually is is just more of a cracking process.
This probably doesn't make any sense........
I'm not bashing the SN. I have never ridden a boat I like as much as my old SN.

First off, the RN top deck is not "hand laid"..

In the mold the top deck of a RN SJ is gel coat, then chopper gun glass/resin, then lastly they are "skinned" with one layer of weaved glass by hand.

Have you ever seen the blue/red/green fiber lines that are in the fiberglass on a RN top deck? Those are the tracer fibers for the chopper gun so the person applying can put out a even coat.

Yes, a RN is stronger stock than a SN. But they both will crack to poop easy without reinforcing... Metton is a tooling/molding plastic and really does suck.. I dont know why they decided to use metton on the SN top decks/hood, maybe they thought it would be better than SMC at the time?

Sure, it's all good!
I had not reinforced the hood at all, but had put in the modified hood liner before. I cut out the old hood modded hood liner. ground and sanded and roughed up the inside and laid up several layers of thick chopmat and cloth blend fiberglass Put in a couple of layers of kevlar I had also. I taped around the cracks and over them to keep the epoxy from running though. Then I refiberglassed my old hood liner back in. I'll fill and repaint the chips and cracks on the outside this winter....maybe. But until then, its ready for more beating. took more pics of the process, but can't find them now for some reason.
sorry for the crappy pics.

I doubt a beginner will crack a square...for a while...install a rulemate 750 bilge (no switch needed), hood straps and a pole limiting rope and get out there and ride... Footholds are the next mod.

Have fun!

That looked much worse in person Andy, Glad to see the repair went well.

it makes perfect sense! Rn aren't superior because they handle different.(because they don't).Stock to stock a sn prob has a 3" lower center of gravity. Rounds are superior because they have a glass top top deck. Alot stronger. Squares are 100% smc garbage. Actually I believe the hood is metton(even worse). I honestly thought my old square handled better. But there are alot more rn parts available
