Other Sunk Ski in Lake Erie...how do we find it...

D-Roc

I forgot!
I almost lost my sxi years ago in Erie. It was waves and all you need is to have a ski to hold onto to help keep it from going down. It was heavy enough that two of us with life jackets could not tread water without being pulled down. Luckily we had another ski to hold ourselves up with and we towed it back without a rope in waves. Not easy but we did it. Best of luck on the search boys.

The insurance thing seems to be hit or miss. I have a policy from Erie insurance on my ski too. I have asked them over and over again (because of all the talk here on the X) if I was for sure 100% covered and they said yes. They asked me not to go telling the whole world but they said I was covered at my stated value (10k) and they for sure would pay out if something ever happened. I even went over my agents head and asked some big shots at corporate. They said if my agent gave me the policy then they would stand by it.

Spoke to jetskihorder18 for quite a while and he basically did every single thing possible with the final solution being the helicopter. I am just hoping for some clear flat days to settle then make some drop weights with strings attached to a floatation. Will drop them from anything suspect like tiny parachute men.

When you go up, let me know. If we could get a guy on the beach with a walkie talkie talking to the choppa and giving hand signals to a swimmer, you may be able to direct them right to it and tie a rope and buoy on it.

A buddy of mine lost his hood to his bob at our local lake a few weeks ago in 60+ feet of water and he built a search camera out of a home security camera with infared night vision enclosed in a pvc tube with plexi cover so the camera could see out, he used a small head rest type moniter for a car dvd system to veiw what the camera was seeing in real time and floated around on an inner tube till he found it. When he found it he marked it and retrieved it using scuba gear. He said the set up worked well and the whole set up was only a couple hundred bucks

That's a good idea, but the lake just has not so good visibility. I ironically have the LI Ego which has wireless connectivity to a live stream

I will pm you my address. I have a freak and q8 insured. Thanks for the $100

I'm a man of my word so send it over. Include the name of your agent and a copy of the insurance cards showing that they are actually stated as what they are. I want to see what it cost you and what the fine print says about actual coverage.

Unfortunately they do not have any offices in my area, nor will they insure out of state. :(

I have my Rickter insured for 20g thru Conexus, they sent the quote out to 4 different company's and only a marine specialist. Ins company offered, cost me $600 roughly. You can keep the $100, haha!

For the future, like stated earlier, avalanche beacons could save you a lot of headache. They aren't that big and if you could somehow mount it in the engine bay. Then when a ski sinks, you have to have two, you pull out the tab on the one you have and it will direct you to the other one. Not sure if the are submersible. They are a few hundred bucks and I definitely think it would be worth a look into. Good luck with the search

It's worth a shot and it's been discussed before but I can't see the signal transmitting through water far enough to be effective. If it was possible, I think you'd see a unit developed for regular boats. Every marine beacon I have seen is designed to break away and float on the surface. Imagine the money involved in finding lost transport ships carrying millions in cargo. If recovering them isn't enough incentive to design a recovery beacon, i don't know what is.

Prevention is still the cheapest/simplest solution. Foam is cheap and easy enough to install.

They work on the surface only. Wireless transmission through water is damn near impossible unless you're using ultra long wave rf
