Holy kraaaap!!!! It's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO freakin early.....
Well.... early to be posting updates that were just completed...
Updates???
To the Really Hull????
Yes sleepy kitty.... UPDATES!!!
SO I started off using wax and grease remover with a red scotchbrite pad on the bottom deck to remove any of the wax from when it was made.
Next I roughed it up with some 40 grit on a flap wheel (much different than a fap wheel!) and then reapplied the wax and grease remover... just in case.
After that, mix up some resin and Cabosil to the good ole peanutbutter consistency, and apply.....
(sorry these pics are horrible, I was in a hurry trying to do all of this at once.)
I also filled in the gaps around the fire wall, hopefully discouraging any water ingress to the back side.
Next I wet the hull with a brush (more resin) and laid in the pre-cut strips of 6" Kevlar that I cut last night.
Worth of note, the Kevlar wets out really easy... Kinda cool.
Next, more resin... and I brush the entire side of the ski (inside, before anyone asks), an lay in my pre-cut layer of massivly thick 19.7oz Carbon.
I then wet the carbon by stabbing with a brush, (stippling for the artists following along), and used a bondo spreader to spread out the resin and make sure there wasn't too much.
When I made the templates for the carbon, I left them long, so I could over lap onto the firewall, hopefullying tying the side and the firewall together some.
Oh, no pics, but I ground out around that giant bilge hole and put a small carbon patch down before I put down the main layer. Not real sure what i'm gonna do with the outside, but... its sealed up anyway. I acomplished all of this very quickly... I can't believe it.
The hope, is that by applying these three steps at the same time, they cure together, and become one strong layer vs multiple. We'll see how it holds up, but I feel like this was a good method.
Pretty much thats it. Not a lot of funny business, but good progress... My son should be up soon, so maybe when he goes back down, i'll do the other side. But I don't have anything prepped or pre-cut.
Watcha think?
