Man what a weekend!
Epoxy and Carbon were on the porch as I hoped on Friday.
Wife and I put the kids to bed on Friday, I kissed her on the cheek and said "you know where i'll be!"
BTW, This is all gonna start to look the same because i'm just laying CF down right now. But i'm gonna keep it exciting... or try.
I left my phone inside on Friday, so I didn't get many pics of 'progress'. I put down a layer of CF on the left side of the ski, but got in a rush and didn't make a matching pattern for the right before I started in with the resin. So I ended up waiting until Sat night to put down more.
Plan your work!
Little note about the Resin Research resin. I got this stuff, it looks like resin.... :dunno: I clean off my pumps from my US composites stuff and start to prime the resin pump... (can't find a good gif...) It was so hard to pump. The resin is crazy thick...
I was like
How is this stuff gonna spread/ work into the cloth????
The hardener on the other hand, is like friggen water lol...
(fancy gif is fancy)
So I try to use the pump method to measure this stuff out ( Its a 2:1 mixture )...
Little word of advice... DON'T DO THIS! It doesn't work. I ended up using graduated mixing cups.
After mixing up my first batch, I spread it out which wasn't bad, its still a little thicker than the US Composites thin epoxy.
So I let it sit... and sit... and sit.... I go out to check it and its still kinda... flexy? Its not hard... I expected it to be crazy solid.
So at this point I proceed to
Because i'm pretty sure I didn't mix it up right and its never gonna harden up. I've had this happen before... it sucks the sweat off a dead man's balls.
Then i'm like...
So I bust out the mutha effin lamps!!!
Go back out 6 hours later... that shyt is rock solid!
Moral of the story? This stuff needs a little heat to cure... It's been in the 70's and kinda humid here. That won't get it!
Anyhow....
More resin, more carbon on Saturday while babies were napping. Applied heat this time... no screwing around.
Saturday night I had a little more time. But I didn't feel like getting crazy dusty. The resin was curing nicely but not quite done.
I wanted to do the resin dye in the epoxy thing for the bilge but never got the dye. SO... epoxy paint it is... It looks pretty shoddy, but the bilge looked like poop water before... so i'll take it. Of course I tossed in some flashy paint that will do stuff in the sun. You'll see....
Found the filler neck that I painted 2 months ago... I wanted to put a tube on it and use it as storage, but who knows if i'll ever get around to that... So in it went, and topped off with my fancy billet cap.
But that only took like... 5 min right?
What did I do with the rest of my time????
I know this will come to a shock...
especially to my local crew... but I actually cleaned my shop.
I should have taken a before picture but honestly I would have been too embarrassed to post it. It was so bad....
Sunday... My dad-mobile ruptured a oil line... puked oil all over the driveway. That pretty much consumed my day dealing with that. Getting towed to a shop this morning.
And that brings us to today!
Hopefully I get my turf soon... I should be ready to put some down very shortly.
