so read most of your pages .. huge "build thread" LOL
you were on track progress wise in that 20 mins when you tore out all that reiforcement that did not adhere LOL
so its been about 8 months .. you also dug out the nose fill and cleaned that up .. defoamed and working on the footholds ..
whats next ..
is this back to a build thread ?
I bet you spent more time searching for animated pics than tha actual build :p
and i just spent more time reading this when i have a few ski projects of my own here .. its damn cold out in the garage though !!

so is there somewhere in the thread where you said how much you paid ? it does look like a nice hull all said and done :)

If this thread only had progress pictures, it'd not be half as good as it is. This thread was created to give people something to laugh about.

Don't get me wrong. There was a few times I thought this thread was pointless but..... really........ I do like this thread. Made me laugh every time.

Yeah, its gotten a little out of control.... LOL thanks.
Part of a build is usually a tear down of some nature. Either tearing down what was stock or somebody's abortion of composite work in my case. But yeah, now I'm building it back up and pretty much i'm done really.

I generally don't discuss prices on stuff I buy.

Hey robin can you make a build thread with progress pics only?

Thanks Tyler, I appreciate it. I try to make it slightly entertaining otherwise its just another boring build thread. I really do try to post build pics whenever I can.
That being said... I've tried to dial back the gifs a little lately. Partly because i've run out of problems to find (and associated anger to convey) with this ski, so until I break something riding it... its just generic gifs and stuff.

Really happy with Resin Research. Guy was super cool on the phone, they got my order out asap, and should deliver today! They even refunded me $10 because the guy quoted me $10 too much... for some reason. They didn't have to do that at all. Kinda impressed.

Anyhow, hopefully my carbon gets here today too... gotta check tracking. But I have some carbon and Kevlar to put down, so... I should be able to do something this weekend.

*edit* It should be here today as well... Busy day for my porch!

Man what a weekend!

Epoxy and Carbon were on the porch as I hoped on Friday.
Wife and I put the kids to bed on Friday, I kissed her on the cheek and said "you know where i'll be!"

BTW, This is all gonna start to look the same because i'm just laying CF down right now. But i'm gonna keep it exciting... or try.

I left my phone inside on Friday, so I didn't get many pics of 'progress'. I put down a layer of CF on the left side of the ski, but got in a rush and didn't make a matching pattern for the right before I started in with the resin. So I ended up waiting until Sat night to put down more.

Plan your work!

Little note about the Resin Research resin. I got this stuff, it looks like resin.... :dunno: I clean off my pumps from my US composites stuff and start to prime the resin pump... (can't find a good gif...) It was so hard to pump. The resin is crazy thick...

I was like
tumblr_inline_mksolbgiRd1qz4rgp.gif

How is this stuff gonna spread/ work into the cloth????

The hardener on the other hand, is like friggen water lol...
faucet.gif

(fancy gif is fancy)

So I try to use the pump method to measure this stuff out ( Its a 2:1 mixture )...

Little word of advice... DON'T DO THIS! It doesn't work. I ended up using graduated mixing cups.
After mixing up my first batch, I spread it out which wasn't bad, its still a little thicker than the US Composites thin epoxy.

So I let it sit... and sit... and sit.... I go out to check it and its still kinda... flexy? Its not hard... I expected it to be crazy solid.

So at this point I proceed to
tumblr_inline_mk811e3HaE1qz4rgp.gif

Because i'm pretty sure I didn't mix it up right and its never gonna harden up. I've had this happen before... it sucks the sweat off a dead man's balls.

Then i'm like...

So I bust out the mutha effin lamps!!!

Go back out 6 hours later... that shyt is rock solid!

Moral of the story? This stuff needs a little heat to cure... It's been in the 70's and kinda humid here. That won't get it!

Anyhow....

More resin, more carbon on Saturday while babies were napping. Applied heat this time... no screwing around.

Saturday night I had a little more time. But I didn't feel like getting crazy dusty. The resin was curing nicely but not quite done.
I wanted to do the resin dye in the epoxy thing for the bilge but never got the dye. SO... epoxy paint it is... It looks pretty shoddy, but the bilge looked like poop water before... so i'll take it. Of course I tossed in some flashy paint that will do stuff in the sun. You'll see....

Found the filler neck that I painted 2 months ago... I wanted to put a tube on it and use it as storage, but who knows if i'll ever get around to that... So in it went, and topped off with my fancy billet cap.

But that only took like... 5 min right?
What did I do with the rest of my time????

I know this will come to a shock...

I should have taken a before picture but honestly I would have been too embarrassed to post it. It was so bad....

Sunday... My dad-mobile ruptured a oil line... puked oil all over the driveway. That pretty much consumed my day dealing with that. Getting towed to a shop this morning.

And that brings us to today!
Hopefully I get my turf soon... I should be ready to put some down very shortly.

We did about the same thing this weekend...partially.

I have been trying to clear a chit ton of rc airplanes out of my garage so I could get back to work on 300sx project. It was nice to sell a few of them so I can move stuff around in there!

That carbon fiber looks really messy in there, but I'm sure it'll clean up! I have never messed with the stuff before so IDK much about it. Great progress though!

Man, all my respect to the people who make visual parts. This stuff is a pita to mess with on complex curves.

Its not supposed to look good, just be "stronk like bull!"

BTW, turf came in today. Hydro turf rocks!

Kinda slacking tonight. I cut off the excess carbon, ground down the tails and rough spots, and stood in the tray to see how rigid it is. It's pretty stout, I think I'm done with my layup.

Came home from work yesterday and headed straight to the shop. I wanted to test out the tray one more time before calling it good.
I set it on the floor, (whacking my shin with the beach stand in the process) and hopped on the tray in a few key spots. It felt SO solid... I'm sure theres a chance it will crack, but someones gonna have to be doing something serious to do that. We'll see.

So on to underpad and turf!

D987A9DE-842E-4DEC-8332-B89919001E6C-1861-000001DE50AC8C4F_zpsde9c4c54.jpg

I ordered a small sheet of 18mm plush and 9mm plush under pad from HT. Hind sight, I should have ordered two 9mm sheets, forming the 18mm was tough with all the contours in the tray. But I came up with a solution. I made relief cuts, allowing the pad to flex more in certain spots.

I carried that theme over to the 9mm thats going inside the FFH.

AEF70938-F444-4435-B89B-7ADE50866617-1861-000001DE5B2B2E7E_zps46177fd3.jpg

And you can see here how the relief cuts work on top, but I made quite a few on the bottom where the pad had to flex for the foot well area.

I was able pull the stock rail cover off one side and also got down a layer of 9mm on the top of the gunwales, as well as a layer on the sides where feet might hit but no pics. So I guess it didn't happen!!!! lol...

Here's the bad news. I'm busy this weekend, busy last half of next week through the weekend, and the free ride (my goal) is the weekend after that.

It's not looking good. :doh::17:

But i'm not giving up. I have everything I need, just need the time to get it done.

I feel your pain man. Had full intentions of getting the rest of my mud work done last night. Then I walked into a flooded garage, kitchen and laundry room. Hot water heater finally died. I had been patching it for about a year. So gym showers for the rest of the week for me and I get to replace the tank this weekend and possibly start painting. Got my turf in. Keep it up man, you are ahead of me so you aren't in last place lol.
