FX-1 Thanks uncle bob! Fx1 time

I got and have been building up a superjet and that's what I've been riding. After seeing the fx1 I just fell in love. Unfortunately seein how rare and expensive they are and can be I never imagined I could afford one. After being excite that I was learning and building up my super jet I called my uncle to ask what kind of skis he had because when I was only around 3-4 him an my dad would ride with me in the tray or cruise around. Well ofcourse my uncle had an fx1 as well as a superjet. Told me tht the top end was blown on the fx but wasn't positive, and said it had been sitting since halfway through the 2002 season. I offered immediately to trade him my square running for the fx1 and he told me he wouldn't trade, instead I could just have it if I can get it from his house in Oregon to Phoenix. Well I may not have the funds to buy and fx1 but I had no problem coming up with shipping and for $300 I now own and will save this fx1. It came with the top end removed, newer grey turf, a brand new chinpad cover to match the turf and every last part I put it all back together. Even had a new tau ceti flame arrester haha. Hopefully I can get a motor to thro in for the mean time. My heart it set on the jetmaniac top end kit and this will be the ski I build up on my 19 year old normal person job funds haha. Now a bunch of pics and sorry for the long story. I'm pretty :):):):)ing excited haha! Pics Ina sec.

Pull your SJ motor and throw it in the FX-1. Than work on the funds for the larger Jetmaniac motor. At least that would give you something to ride.

Sweet man!
Brad

I might just throw in the 650 if I want to ride it that badly before hand since I usually join Jason at saguaro. But it needs the crank rebuilt, one of the rods is pretty mangled. The rest it perfectly fine, the sleeves on the top end aren't even scarred up or anything and te head barely has a minuscule mark or 2 on it. One rod just has tons of play, the piston rings aren't seated and it has some good markings on the piston. Cases look fine but are goin to need to be cleaned when I pull the crank. Should have enough saved for jetmaniac by end of January so ill put a prop in my superjet in the mean time and let my girlfriend figure out how to ride the fx1 with the smaller motor in it. That way she will be able to handle it with the jet manic top end kit haha. I want to build this up right, it going to eventually see a 144 pump and wide tray. For now I will enjoy it as it works it's way up there. My square isnt a bad ski either and doesn't deserve to get neglected right away haha!

looks like a jetdynamics top loader intake grate and riva groovy ride plate. good goodie parts right there. you could easily come up with a good used crank for cheap , quick hone on the cylinders, maybe a bit of sand paper on those seize marks on the pistons, throw it back together with the quickness and ride the 701 that should run fine like that. probably a nice stainless prop in that pump also, if unk put the grate n plate on there.

I looked at the prop right when I saw the top loader... No dice haha just a stocker. But this is new stuff to me, I've never had to rebuild a motor. Hopefully a guy at my local shop will pull my crank for me for cheap, and replace that rod. I am going to post a pic of the problem. Just that rod, the other piston is nice and clean no scarring and nice and smooth on the crank. The second rod is destroyed, lots of play and the rings on the piston are trashed. It doesn't appear to have cause the cases any harm but will clean it up when the crank is pulled as I'm sure there is some shrapnel in there. However I can see that the side with the perfectly fine rod and piston it's super clean.

yea, rod bearing went out. there are not a lot of shops that want to or even can rebuild your crank. it aint cheap either. better off finding a cheap , used good crank. yamaha cranks are pretty bullet proof, so its easy to find a good used one. you arent dealing with a high tech race motor here, so there are a lot of cheap options. if the cylinder isnt grooved or scared bad, a hone and even a good used piston can be had dirt cheap. my advice is, learn how to work on your own stuff or you are going to go broke paying somebody else to keep up with this jetski junk and your addiction :)=

there you go! factory928 selling a good used OEM crank for $115 shipped. that about half what i get for them. good deal. somebody on here would probably give you a good used piston and rings, if you ask. probably standard bore. look at the top of the piston for identifying marks/#s.

Yes the rods said 62t on them, but it is stock bore, stock pistons. Definitely going to start with getting a good crank thanks for all the advice. Knowing me ill be on the water before it even warms up. Just need to learn how to remove the crank. Ill be on YouTube here shortly haha thanks!

And yea Jason is the man! I've learned a ton from him and he always is willing to help my get my square solid to go rip. if it wasn't for Jason I wouldn't have been on the lake half as much as I've gotten to. I'm sure he will atleast point me in the right direction to get it done myself haha and he usually has all the tools, if not tools get made. He's going to help me with a few small repairs under the hull once I pull the motor. Hoping to not have to invest much into my motor seeing as I'd like the jetmaniac topend kit, wich comes with the pistons. The crank is only going to hold me from buying tubbies right away.

Your uncle is Awesome.

Buzzard has the right idea.

Since you are local AZ, and building an FX-1, here is my advice:

Get a good used crank or rebuilt SBT crank, or take yours to crankworks in tempe and have it rebuilt.
Take your cylinder to shortblock charlie in tempe to be honed.
Pick up a pair of WSM pistons. Or, I might have some used OEM 701 pistons you can have.
Put the motor back together and ride the ski. This isn't brain surgery, and you don't need to throw money at a local shop to rebuild your motor. Spend your money on more important things. There are plenty of people local and on this site to help w/ advice.
You will need a decent prop.
Buy a B-pipe w/ mod chamber.
Then do your pump swap. Or do the pump swap before you add the pipe.
Jason has a 140 pump in his FX-1, and I have a 144 in mine. You are more than welcome to try my ski to get a feel for the difference in pumps.
Once you have a decent pump in the ski, then worry about adding power.

Anyway, I'm just trying to get you on the water for cheap. You're already on Jason's FB page?

Yea man I'm the one who swapped the 701 in my square. Ride with Jason at saguaro like once or twice a week besides this past weekend haha. I appreciate all the help everyone I've met so far willing to lend a helping hand. I however love learning as I go, I do well with instruction and I remember verry well. I'm no stranger to the motor but I haven't pulled a crankshaft before and I really wish I didn't have to haha but no better time to learn. And the Tom 21 pump tunnel would be right on the money, I do have an extra 144 pump and I have a superjet wich would let me share plates and grates. I love the plate/grate setup on this how it is for now though maybe d cut the plate. Ill be pulling the engine tomorrow morning or what's left of the engine I guess, and then when Jason has some free time ill be going to get a lesson in fiberglass repairs and get it looking new again. Most likely will be bringing the bottom cases with me to have him help me remove the crankshaft haha. From there I'm open to whatever is cheapest, but reliable. Most likely get a used oem good crank as $120 isn't too bad. If you hve a piston for me, even better because that way I won't have to spend $. Another local rider is also giving me a good deal on a pipe, wich Isn't a b pipe but will do. All I will be really doing to this to make me happy will be simply Tom 21 tubbies, Tom 21 wide tray, and Tom 21 144 pump tunnel, and for engine I will love to go with a jetmaniac ported topend kit maybe to 735cc, and a b pipe is cherry on top. I've had some verry fun high speed crashes on Jason's fx and it's stock with b pipe. I have a few small parts now but well see how this goes. Alot of people willin to help sounds like ill be ridding sooner than later!

My local shop is jet action in Tempe, they are a couch rental place... I walk in to ask for some water fittings and bam there's a rickter. The owner is a hardcore standup guy. He guided me through swapping the cdi in my ebox when I did a 701 swap. Orders me all the small stuff for his cost like nice fuel line for under $1 a foot. Sold me very nice billet water bypass for $5 and cooling line for free because it was his last bit. He rides superjets has 2 fully built roundnose jets but he lets me walk into his shop with my ski on a beach cart and helps me get :):):):) done haha. Standup people are always looking out for eachother.

I know Ryan. He is a good guy and will take care of you. This is the right time of year too, since it is his off season. He says he used to have a whole shelf of 760 motors ready to go.

These motors are easy to work on, and you should learn how if you are going to do this on the cheap.

I will check my attic to see what I have for used pistons.

Why do you prefer the FX1 over the square?

Well I used to bmx, and I was/still am pretty good. And learning how I did I was used to throwin around the weight. The shape, and how it's shorter and lighter really caught my attention, I wanted an fx1 as soon as I saw one before I bought my superjet. Then I ran into Jason at saguaro and he let me ride his. Learned how to swim that day, and learned how to ride that thing. You would have to see how I ride to understand. I was having more than enough fun with the 650 in my square. Learned alot of tricks very fast haha. The fx1 is easier to nose stab and likes to be flicked around. I'm goin for barrel rolls on this beast as soon as it's warm again. During the cold I like cruising and racing around chasing boat wakes. You will never see me pass up a good boat wake, I often am the one to ask a boat to give us a good 5 min pull haha. The challenge of the fx1 was what I must have been craving.
