FX-1 Thanks uncle bob! Fx1 time

I haven't even posted anything since haha makes me want to dig up the pictures of priming it. I think after completely refinishing the surface I had to wetland primer about 3 times before my boss approved and shot the speed coat. I did a lot of the work in September and then it sat all October and November until I finally touched it today. I had to wet sand the speed coat for the 2nd time to get all the fisheye out and make it look perfect even though I didn't even intend to paint the very bottom... Either way it'll be a brand new ski when I'm done haha. ill find pics of the stages of priming, I am shooting the gloss black on the sides tomorrow and then flipping it for some surgery right away. Here's pics of where the ski is at now after tonight.

You can see that I did the rear bond line corners cut, I also cabasoiled the crap out of the areas and shaped it. When the gloss black gets sprayed it's going to be sick. I'm so excited every time I walk by it haha I can't wait to take a picture of the bottom finished hopefully this week.

Found the pics. If you do paint, glass work, or bodywork you'll know what a pain this was. Prime, sand, body work, prime , sand, body work, prime , sand, finally speed coat... And sand and sand and sand... I already did the pole too btw, -3".

That makes me glad I layed some cabasoil on them for strength. I wonder how they would feel with more aggressive rear sponsons but I'm going to get the fischetti 550 stabilizers first. They work amazing on the fx1

You can see where I had to re spray some burn throughs, they will blend in eventually haha but the bottom is just black primer sanded with 800 and that's my speed coat... I could care less about it really since I wasn't painting the bottom at first but this thing is completely refinished bottom, no nicks or anything. I'll take pics of the sides after paint. The bottom deck is going gloss black around the sides and front in the boweye . I'm going to do something that's basic lookin but hopefully looks right on the top deck. I'd hate to do all this work and just do one solid color on the top deck. I took he pics before I skirted it and masked inside my tape lines. Came out sharp! I'll get pics soon.image.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpeg

Here it is unmasked and showing off that exhaust outlet against the gloss black. I'm stoked to say the least, I'll be polishing the exhaust outlet and there is a damn burn through on my speed coat on the non exhaust side rear corner... I'll just sharpie it haha. I really like how the rear corners came out too, I cut them and then decided to shape it and I'd say it payed off. Looks too many nice haha.

She went right side up and I immediately ground out all the stress cracking, major cracks I used the same tool I've used to port a cylinder and then the gel coat cracking I just ground away and then 80grit DA. Filled the cracks with cabasoil and then DA down beforore bodywork.

So ten years later and... Primer time. Should have it primed Sunday, it's been rainy out here in AZ so i haven't been able to finish the body work but today I said screw it and knocked it out in between breaks in the rain. Smooth as a baby's butt, however I'll see if anything shows after primer..

Primer, guide coat, ready to block out and re prime again after correcting any slight imperfections. Hard to see everything until you get primer on it. I'll admit I have a 2 inch area of the hood lip I will be adding to and re finishing the shaping but that's about it. Deal was to get primer on this bad boy then I will cut the tray and do the glass work. I'm ready! Little 550sx got primed too for a customer haha my boss is letting a rider do his own prep/ body work and he's sprayi color. Pretty sick to see my boss helping other people get their poop looking nice and teaching them how to get the final product.

Got the tray piece cut down to size ready to reattach, I am going to use spray foam to fill and then carefully shape it until the tray pics butts up against it nice and firm. I will be taking some more pics with my GoPro especially as I get ready to mount the tray and glass it in, can't wait to close this thing up and get the other side knocked out. Should be nice and wide and allow me to use some more body language while riding. image.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpeg
