How does JSS bench test it???? Dont see how he did if the LED was not working........ and as far as I know, He has not had a ski in 2 years.........

like posted earlier, contact Crammit, he knows this system pretty well.

What's so hard about bench-testing an MSD TL?
I Have done it plenty of times, and you can do everything but rev the engine/set timing.
You verify it works.

As for the dip switches.....you can't really verify that the majority of them work as designed even on the water. (Not quantitatively)

How do you check the dip switches?

I guess if you had a reliable test engine, a timing light, and a tach you could test most of the dip switches but I definately think that would be something you'd only do when you suspect something is wrong...

True. Now that I think about it, I guess the "MAX TIMING" switches were tested, but I didn't switch around the others after I set them.

What type of performance gains do you actually achieve from a TL system especially when weighed against the reliability/maintenance issues?

I read more about how much of a PITA they are than how much of a benefit they are, but maybe that is just a 'squeaky wheel' thing.

I think the biggest things are the ability to get more power out of being able to fine tune your ignition curve to an extent, and the fact that the TL flywheel is 1.2lbs versus the stock ~3.75. Oh, and the spark is alot stronger.

to someone who knows how to set one up properly, they are great to have providing you keep spare parts of everything, and know how to trouble shoot every part of it.

for someone who does not know how to set one up, It is a huge PITA, not a bolt up and go part.

personally I will not run one. Just not worth the hassle. My ride time is very limited these days so I do not want to spend the time having to puck with it.

Guys like Tricky1, Crammit, Godocgo, Scottimac and others who know how to keep them running also have all the backup parts for them.

Their stuff also always runs and they don't have to constantly d1ck with it,they d1ck with it anyway but its because they want to not because they have to.:fest06:

It works! Coil was definitely the problem. I still need to tinker with the carbs I think. It has a little bit of hesitation off idle. Thanks for the help guys.

Sweet I'm gonna try this other coil in mine too so wish me luck.

It sounded like yours ran awesome out of water like mine did but under load it was crap. The spark looks super strong on mine but I wonder if the added fuel and compression when it's in the cylinder kills it.

Mostly acceleration and bottom end due to less flywheel weight and increased static timing.

The gains are throughout the RPM range, everywhere.
The gains are due to:
1. Less rotating mass
2. No EM field to drag the flywheel down (due to no charging)
3. Programmability of the ignition (which allows massive timing on bottom and safe timing on top, allowing higher compression than you would normally run safely)

As long as a new system is installed properly, I believe MSD TL is every bit as reliable as an OEM system.
