They killed the 4.0 because they weren't selling enough parts for it. Can't keep a company alive on rear main seals only.

I literally think other than basic maintenance, the rear main was the only thing motorwise that I needed to replace on like 3 of my cherokees.

I wouldnt buy a new jeep unless it had a hemi. The 1st gen of the new wranglers had a minivan motor, and the new versions with the pentastar motor arent much better.
 
Actually the 3.8 wasn't a bad motor, not suited for a jeep, but still more reliable than the 3.6. The 3.6 has an over complicated oil system which causes a few issues.
