Also this from way back in the day we would spray the head gasket with copper coat. This would make removing the head easier without the gasket sticking to the cylinder or head.

I blew my rubber coupler apart on a two day ride. Couldnt get another one so i laminated two pieces of a broken conveyor belt together then used a bandsaw to cut out the shape. I got to ride on day two! It had a bit of vibration but it worked.2011-11-08_20-23-43_26.jpg

Tricky was helping me get my carbs dialed in. Don't know how many times I pulled the carbs off to put bigger and bigger jets in till I realized I had pinched the head o-ring. No amount of jetting can make up for an air leak that big!

This thread is hilarious!

Where to begin... I learned from my brother that drilling out the jets in our 1980's corolla station wagon only made it run out of gas quicker than it normally did!

As far as rookie mistakes on the ski:

Cut the stator wires when I couldn't figure out how to get the motor out of my first ski
Cut the wires to the heat sensor one of my first skis cause it kept over heating and running in limp mode...
Tried to reuse obviously blown head gaskets by caking them with RTV
Believing Torr

I'm sure others will come to mind as this thread develops....

was removing the msd TL flywheel , when I threaded the 3 bolts that holds the puller, I went too deep, and ripped the two pick up off the plate

As long as it's for science, it's ok.
Next time I see you, I need you to hold my plug boots while I crank. You need to be standing in saltwater.

It's for SCIENCE.

hAHA! I did that too many years ago when I was working with the russian on a yatch with a couple stand ups. one of them had a frozen bendix so I used( for the first time) a RAD flywheel puller and ended up screwing up the coils by screwing the bolts too far in. I put everything back together not knowing what I did and then could figure out why I suddently had no spark!! I even replaced the MSD first thinking It could not be the stator! then a few hours into the night , I realized my mistake and threw myself overboard...FOR SCIENCE!

1. I started a fresh motor, was reving it up without the airfilters on and a chinpad screw I hadnt fully tightened dropped into the carb. Piston and dome head damage

2. taking carbs off and hit positive post with corner of carb, caught carbs and ski on fire. Luckily minimal damage

3. hooked up a msd enhanser wrong, backfired and blew the bpipe chamber off, ripping the new coupler.

funniest thing I saw someone else do (mossman) He just put his motor in and was either in such a hurry to get to lake or had some other influence, that he forgot to put gas tank in. He got suspious when his ski took a whole 5 gallon gas can. He lifted the hood and his motor was swimming in gasoline.
