wamiltons vs WCF hulls

I would say - based on my experience with the 3 07 SJ's we had at Universal this summer - that if you don't reinforce it heavily near the bond line, especially on the left side, you will have a POS hull in short order. 2 of the 3 skis we had cracked on both sides in identical locations, both within 2 weeks of putting them in the water. And neither of them had any abuse to damage the hulls. The left side cracks most of the way from the gas tank towards the rear along the bond line on the hull side, and the right side cracks behind the battery, and you may as well pick out your favorite glue for the hood seal cuz you'll need to stick that back down also.

I guess I don't make it sound so nice, but if you reinforce it first I think you'll be fine.

was this just an issue with the 07's?

i don't think so... my buddie's (Newman) '05 SJ hull is noticable thinner than my '01. his was showing some cracking after a few weeks of average riding.

WOW. He was selling those for $2500. Is he actually charging you $1100 to crate and ship you the hull? :ugh2:

Not sure if you realize it but your 99 hull is the EXACT same as the hull you just purchased. :cool2:

For that money I would make sure he fills in any holes on the bond line. My 07 hull had lots of spots missing glue in the bond line before it was reinforced and filled in. .02

hey Tut, go back and read his post, He paid 2600 for the hull, the other $1000.00 is to install Footholds, scupper tube, trim tube and a few others......

I can tell you this, I bought one of Pats 2000 model hulls that is now 7 years old that wamilton setup., guess how much water I found in the foam, at footholds and above the pump............ Zero.......... There is something to be said about Wammilton prepping your hull.......

well I talked to jeff and his stuff sounds really nice for the price.. But everyone on here says to stay clear, so I dunno what to do??? I thought the 07 was a good deal, cause I know how sj rides, but this way I get a brand new boat, with everything I want on it and I wasn't ready to spend 5k on an after market hull. Now I didn't know revs were so cheap.. I never ridden one or read anything about them.. so I guess tonight I have to figure this all out, in order to cancel my wammer order or not.. I'm leary too because everyone says to stay away from this jeff guy?? he says he has 2 revs all done. Or he can custom make me one take a 2 weeks or so. Then again I dunno much about them.... man you guys killed me now I'm lost again... :(

Come down to Louisville and ride my X-jet if you want to get a feel for how they handle

also, if you sell your 99 hull, you would get around $1000.00-$1500.00 for it, so knock your out of pocket expense back to $2000-2500.00 for a new 07 hull with the extras, I would go ahead and get Wamilton to reinforce the sides and nose while you are at it.......

Personally, I would rather prep out a new 07 hull than take my chances with WDK.........

this is my thoughts aswell... I jsut thought I could get a good set up ski that will last me a few years, I can build the motor.. and then maybe move to an aftermarket hull... But the bondline thing has me scarred now... and that there not as strong as the older models... humm...

$3500 sounds steep. Crate up your hull and send it to him to do all that work for a grand if he will. Even if WDK takes a year to get it to you id feel better spending that much for an AM hull.

I have been competing for 4 years on stock hulls, this is the first year I have been on a wamiltons preped OEM hull, my old hull was not reinforced....... I have not once thought, damn, If I had a lighter hull I could do better...........

Personally, most people do not need a light hull......... hell, Ratti has been kicking my ass in competitions for 2 years now and he is on an oem hull... It is not needed........

Pffffft...people don't "need" a lot of things.

99.9% of stuff in this "sport" isn't a "need" basis. Damn, I don't "need" a b-pipe, either, but guess what?

I happen to like power, and i happen to like a nimble feeling ski.

right on Harrison! I'd love to have an AM hull... if I had the cash to throw around. I'll spend a little more on motor upgrades, and keep the reinforced OEM hull.

EXACTLY!!!!!! I can't ride anywhere near good enough to NEED a race gas stroker and a light hull, but it sure is fun to ride.:09: That's all it's about for me. I don't have jetski goals or plans to improve my riding skills. I ride and wrench because it's fun and I like it!!! People who say they don't want more power or a lighter ski are not being honest. We all want more.:usa2:

well... I'm thinking I'll just cancel my order and figure out what to do. Maybe crating my ski to send to him... but that seems like alot of wasted effort and money... My best bet is to just rip into it I guess and hope I seal everything up real good. I dont want an 07 hull if its not the same quality of my 99.

Good move. Your 99 hull is a great hull and according to hearsay, much better than the 07 hull.

You don't have to send it to Wammer to get that work done. I bet there are a ton of guys on this board from the OH area who would love to help teach you how to do it yourself for some beer and good bench racing.
