Other What did you fab up today? A thread for the home fabricators!

If i do the R/D, i could probably build each mold (2 needed. 1 fo outside case. 1 for soft liner) for 15-20k a piece! How many cases could we sell for the investment price of a new pick up? :)
But yes, @Quinc you can test the first run :)

Edit: was supposed to come out funny. Hope it came across that way

The base is only $8500 so you could get started cheaper than that and build on it as you go.

Where did you find the prices? I just saw the base price but didn't have a chance to dig into all the options yet.

I have been looking at used HAAS VF's but they are way bigger than I would ever need and also require 3ph or a phase converter. You could probably pick up a good used VF cheaper than the Tormach and be ahead as far as machine ability but if space is an issue, maybe the extra just isn't worth it in this instance.

You have to go through a few pages, but it's on the website. $25k was with all of the options.

I think either a used haas or the tormach would be overkill for what I would use it for, but then again it opens up options you might not consider without it. Personally I don't have space for either, but if I did and I had the time to learn, I would absolutely have one.

I'm still debating going the route you did with a manual conversion.

So I just spent the last hour going through their packages and each individual option and I am no longer that impressed. Strip it down to the bare machine and it's not much better than what I already have. I have already done a bunch of mods and have quite a few more planned and my versions will result in the same function and cost a fraction of the price. The only exception being the automatic tool changer but I can add one of those to mine too.

I selected their deluxe package and then removed the items I already have and I got it down to $21K. Almost $10k of that is tied up in the automatic tool changer and misc software alone . Another $5K is tied up in the base, enclosure swing arms etc...

Crisis averted, I am back to loving my Grizzly. :)

The automatic tool changer and 4th axis is cool. I didn't know you could add an ATC to the Grizzlies. That's pretty neat.

And yes, Boyer has all of the cool toys. I'm jealous everytime I see a picture of the work bench/wall.

I put the Grizzly on task this weekend making jet holders. The material needed way more prep than I anticipated as I ended up having to machine 4 out 6 sides of every piece.

Any plans to include a cut vinyl label with sizes? Or at least a blank templet so buyers could add the numbers they like and have them printed.

How much do these holders sell for? Are they threaded can't fall out?

First time it has actually let me upload a video from my phone.

Let's try another one.

How much does it cost to get a setup like this to get started being able to make most things out of aluminum, brass or the plastics you have here? Is the design and controller programming included with the machine? What's your max dimensions?

I would love to be able to make all the crazy stuff I think up. I would like a new laptop but I figure what's the point, I can't print anything I design anyway.
