I mede up two of them from engine stands when I worked at the ski Nautique dealership. I later bought one of them from them, I still use it from time to time, there is nothing like getting the ski at jsut that right angle to work on it.

Nice work! My father-in-law had a rotisserie for his 68 fastback project and it was amazing how much easier it made working on different stages.
Yeah taking one day out of my life to fab this up so I don’t have to spend weeks like this again is way worth it.

I made one for a jet boat years ago that was an angle iron frame bolted to the stringers, welded to a 2” pipe that stuck out the transom and sat on a pipe stand. The bow eye had a cherry picker attached to it. It was sketchy but I didn’t drop it!

I have been slowly making progress , the weather here has not been good for glassing so it is going very slow, the top had plywood stiffners glassed into it, a lot of the wood or OSB in this case had to be removed and replaced. The ends were cut and glassed up at an angle. I am using bricks and batteries for weights to hold down the fiberglass pieces while the resin sets up.

I had some T1-11 laying around and the thickness was correct so I ripped it down to size and beveled the corners, I saved the fiberglass pieces and reused them to cover the plywood, most of this is done with Polyester resin except where the hinges mount up at , for that I used T1-11, a piece of expanded PVC and two pieces of aluminum I JB welded to get 1/4" thick stock.

That was all screwed together with stainless screws then glassed over using epoxy all the way. This way I can put the hinges whereever they need to go then drill and tap the aluminum blocks.

The hinges are modified stock hood hinges from a Waverunner lll.

I am trying to get the top glassed , flipped , painted and back on by next Wed, I have surgery Thursday morning and that will end any work on this for about six weeks or so.

I doubt I will be able to finish either ski this year but at least they will have a nice place out of the weather to rest while I am down for the count.

I have a pic of mine here with the 300SX mounted up in it. The dolly is an ugly beast but I had several adaptors made for it to fid different skis and those pipes just slide over the old engine stand so the height is adjustable with a bunch of drilled holes. We used it a lot back then , not so much now but I may need to go get it and mount this Superjet up in it it would make life much easier.

I finished up the camper trailer top and reinstalled it, painted whithe with Kirker single stage Polyurethane , most of the inside is now done as well, I just have to drill a few holes and put some screws in it and I still have to do the other side window surround, I added some Aluminum C channel to the back of it to dress that up some as well, I am working on the back door to it now.

I also made a drawer with full extension drawer slides for my crate-storage box-work table so I don't have to remove everything I am workig on off the top of it to get to my tools, The law of the shop applies here , if it's a flat surface it 's a work surface and gets cluttered with stuff, I will probably add a few more drawers eventually.

This is where I left off, I replaced the plywood strips on the door, then I heated it up and got it back in shape then mounted it up with the hinges, things did not go as planned, to make it work I had to cut loose the fixed end of the hinge, drill the pieces and make it movable on both ends, I did get it installed and it will open, but it's way heavy and I can't lift it right now.

Two hydraulic supports will have to be installed on it to make it work right and two snowmobile hood latches will go up top to hold it closed there, I will probably have to figure out a way to tie the two hinges together also and install a lockable latch at the bottom of it, if I can get someone to come by and open it up I will see if I can get some lift supports installed, if not it will be end of January before I can start back on that part of the build.
.

Does custom bending a screwdriver around your hand count as fabrication?

IMG_E5020.JPG

I was using a flat blade screwdriver to dig out a plug from the hole saw and somehow pinned the go button while I was doing it and wrapped the shank of the driver around my hand. It happened in a blink of an eye and I am so lucky I didn't break anything. My hand is quite sore but no swelling and nothing feels broken. kinda hard to believe fingers are tougher than a screwdriver.

So. remember kids, even though you've been doing something one way for decades, it's never too late to get bit. Be mindful of hand placement or better yet, remove the power source from the tool prior to servicing like all the mauals tell you too.
