Christian ,i feel for your situation at hand.something tells me that Steve doesn't intentionally plan on wronging anyone . i mean if dude just started a family and is trying to run a business ,this kind of doesn't jive with the shady guy m/o .sounds like just another guy trying to make his way best he knows how in this world ,maybe making some mistakes along the way.But from a business stand point it sucks being treated poorly and it sounds like you have been more than patient . i myself as a licensed building contractor cant legally take more than 10% down on a project before work starts,so i know how it feels to put your 50%or 100% money down in good faith on a build (at this point you are being very trusting ,especially if its a long distance thing) so it is very important for a builder to keep a good rep ,somewhat open lines of communications with clients, also to be trustworthy.especially since a lot of times it requires large deposit up front .i understand the need for larger deposit for these custom builds,as its not mapped out in any signed contract with installments or any way to protect the builder from the flakey client who may not come thru with a full payment .lets face it a lot of the market are young guys who may encounter financial issues themselves during the process .its just the nature of this business.so the larger deposit covers this issue in a way.i don't think builders are using peoples money for there R&D ventures ,and if they are thats their personal gamble with their legal business obligations. One other good point made that was made in post #86 is that when a builder makes to the point of being called "reputable" it has its own value in itself . the markets changing to a new era with some newer names trying their hand at making hulls (results TBD?) .here on the "x" guys spend each year creating countless threads on their personal perception of value from these builders creating a "Huge" mixing pot of opinions for what the terms of " value" &"quality" is , some right some wrong ,i think most would agree we all would like to save some $$$ and get some quality to boot ,not to mention good timelines ,ect... but at what cost ? For the few who know the answers to these question this is what keeps you in the mix with todays competitive hull market .hope thing all work out Christian
