I first rode a ski in '90, when I was 8 (you old farts ). My parents bought an '89 WR500.

Somewhere around '96, my parents let me buy an '84 550 from a family friend. It was a nightmare keeping that thing running. Looking back, it was always full of water.....a bilge pump probably would have helped that.

In '01 I picked up a 2000 SXI PRO....what a world of a difference that was from the stock 550. That's when I sort of started in the surf, but rode with a dude on a big couch, and just jumped waves

In '02 I got out of the sport when I went in the military

In '03 I picked up a mint blaster, but I only rode from time to time on the lakes in Louisiana where I was stationed.

'05 I picked up an '01 superjet and met Ross Champion and Eddie Bettencourt for the first time a week later. I consider this the beginning of when I really got into this sport....as that when I started riding every weekend and collecting jetskis and parts like it was my job. (edit: this is also the first time I watched anyone barrel roll or backflip in person. It was the start of an obsession)

I rode someones jet ski a few years ago and said i would never buy one. I think it was the next year or two later I got my 98 gp1200, since my brother and I couldnt afford a boat I got that. My brother then got his stand up, and after trying to ride that thing once I wanted one. Unfortanatly I rode about a year and a half (MI time :haha:) so about 5 +months before I realized I NEEDED a stand up! So, I purchased mine from Rickster this spring 95 SXi

Many years ago, back in the Triassic period I think, I rode an old Kawi 440 my cousin owned. It was green and loud and smelled like a burning oil field. I loved it.

First ski I bought was a 1995 Kawi 750 STS for my wife. My brothers docked their Ultra and 750SXI at my place so I had those to play with. The SXI got stolen.

So, I bought the SXI Pro. It's green, it's loud, and it smells like a burning oil field(except when I use Klotz and it smells like cherry syrup)..and I love it.

1st rent a 440 when I was 10 in Grand Cayman in 1985. Tried like hell to get my parents to buy 1 but they were a no go.
Finally bought my 1st ski a 85 550 in 92. I restored back in 01 and still have it. Didn't ride serious until 2000 when i bought a 98 sxi pro.

77' 440 in 89' when I found it, it was sitting in a guys back yard with grass growing in the tray. I rebuilt it an rode it for a year, you would work on those things all week just to ride on the weekend. The next year Yamaha came out with the Superjet and I got the first one to hit our dealership, I remember not likiing it at first compared to the kawi and at the time they were not accepted all that well. how times have changed!!

My first ride was on an old Yamaha waverunner 500 that my Grandpa baught new. We would tow it behind the boat out to the bay every weekend, and my cousin and I would ride. Did that for five years, then i got my own, an '01 XL800.

My first SKI (standup), was 550reed motor, I loved that thing. I remember going to the boat show when I was looking at my XL800, I saw the SJ on display and the guy let me stand on it on the floor, I was hooked.
However, it seemed unreal, so I go the XL. Two years later I bough the 550, never bothered trying one out before I bought, I knew I wanted one!
Ive got to say, I miss my 550.
...that, or I miss having a ski that runs right.

The first ski that i ever rode was a 92 seadoo. I'm not sure of the model but it was purple and it was a tank. I rode that for two summers when we would go to East lake (in northern California) to visit some friends. The second summer we went down there they had a green XP and I loved that thing. I also spent quite a bit of time on a B1 that they owned. The first ski that I ever owned i bought from them it was a '88 X2. Had that for a while then it got destroyed in a fire, now I own a '93 X2.

First ski . . . . Stock 440 . . . . . that thing would hardly even get up on plane. I built a ported, dual carbed and Factory piped 550 pp motor for it. A great improvement over stock but I still wanted more . . . of course !

Second ski . . . . MRD Injected,Factory piped,ported 62t motored '91 Squarenose . . . fast enough ? . . . nope . . . threw in a a 5mil stroker ! That thing was scary fast . . makes me giggle just thinkin' about it ! I used to love the look on peoples faces when they'd get off of it . . . priceless !

I now have had several Roundnoses 1 really clean limited and my current Super Stock spec '97, best handling ski I've ever owned.

I have recently aquired an SXR and a '98 SJ hull. I'm currently trying to figure out which direction to go with them. I'll probably build a mild Supestock out of the SXR and work that SJ hull over into a freestyle ski . . . . . got a busy winter ahead of me though that's for sure !
