Well I just wrapped up another successful seasonal harvest of grommets. They only seem to blossom during the hottest days of summer so you gotta get on them when the sun is out.

Hopefully 400 is enough to get me through the winter. ;)

I can tell you cause I used to manage one. They hire people with no experience or automotive knowledge pay minimum wage and expect them to know what a 15 year veteran mechanic knows.

I used to know part numbers by heart wouldn't even look stuff up just walk to the shelf grab it and customer would be very skeptical until I opened the box.

The irony now is that you actually don't have to know chit about cars to find parts, just how to work the computer. The Advance auto down the road from our house in Charleston had a really attractive, (picture an Indian version of Meagan Fox) 21yr old girl working there that understood the system and was hands down the best at getting me the parts I needed, even though she had no idea what they were. Now, the guy standing beside her knew his way around cars, knew exactly what part I was talking about but had absolutely no idea how to find it in the system.

My favorite is when I'm asking for a specific part like the BR8ES plug and they keep asking me what it's for. After the third request I usually respond with, "Alright, I'll play your game. It's a 2013 Carbon Trinity Hull with an SS865 Billet power valve motor, running an ATP Epic ignition....and it takes an NGK BR8ES plug."

95% of the time now, I just order from home, use discount code TRT30 and then just run down and pick it up an hour later.

I have a Napa down the street that from the road the exterior looks new and up to date. Go in and its peeling puke green floors , Easy riders calenders and smells like moth balls and fertilizer.. I went in one day needing a accelerator pump for my mercruiser 2 barrel carb. I asked for a Accel pump for a 73' nova.. The old man with the long zztop beard whos been there since 80's and before napa took over.. hollers from the dark flickering isle " You want leather or this newfangled Viton crap! " , Same with belts, I toss it on the counter and he just measures or has me walk back there and self serve. I hope he stays afloat. I try to support him even if his prices are higher on some stuff. But for Auto oil and filters Walmart is hard to beat. I cannot stand advance auto. no comment there.. The Old Man and Rock auto for the win!

pretty much same thing happened to me i asked for the br8es and he asked what make and model my car was i told him that was irrelevant since they were not for my car and he said i had to tell him what make and model so he could find them, I just felt bad for him in the end
