This seems to be a re-occurring theme in the OCD Garage lately but this weekend I tackled yet another project that has been on my list for several years.
My Triton trailer was built from a really long couch trailer so the length and balance are way off. The thing is already way too long and I have to hang the skis off the back even further to balance it out so it’s never been ideal.
Rather than cut off the axle mounts and weld them back on further forward, I wanted to replicate the adjustable mount like what the older Triton Elite trailers came with. Since they won’t sell me the parts, I was forced to fabricate my own.
The fender mounts will transfer onto the slider and move with the axle, plus I get to raise them up and inch or so to clear the oversized radial car tires I run now.
I got the new mounts fabbed up over the past couple days and am ready to grind off all the old mounts tomorrow and fit it up.
This is how the wheels sit relative to the ski for optimum balance.
And here is the mockup with the ski where it will sit after tomorrow. It took some time to play around with balance and set my starting place but this should be very close.
This also stages me to finally be able to build a proper fuel jug and cart rack on the tongue and then dial in the perfect balance.
It ends up being a move forward of only 7” so I sure hope all this is work the effort.
