EDIT: www.x-h2o.com/payments.php

Our ads (ebay and Google) revenue has gone way down this month (thanks diggler:rant:) and while we still have plenty of money for a few months, I'm trying to stay ahead of the game.

Would you pay $1/month (or maybe $10/year) to have no ads shown at all?

It would be voluntary, and if you don't, then the site stays EXACTLY stay the same. I might be able to swing some extra pm storage as well. (and if anyone wants a rainbow or star or whatever by their name, we can do that too)

Anyway, just trying to get a feel on this as a possibility for down the road if the revenue doesn't come back up. (it's been dropping over time)

For anyone that doesn't know the history, we started out with paid advertisers, but that was like pulling teeth to get companies to advertise. Then we switched to donations only which worked great but I always felt bad asking for donations. Then I switched to Shoppingads (ebay ads) which was amazing for a few months, then tapered off. Then I did the t-shirts to help which did for a while but is a ton of work for me since only a couple get ordered at a time.

Hold the suggestions on raising money like auctions and raffles and stuff, I've heard that all before but this thread is about this specific topic. (and no you don't need to pm me about it either, I get waaaayyyy too many pm's)

I'd do it if ad revenue fell too far to be self sufficient, but it really doesn't bother me enough to do it otherwise....

It's way below self-sufficient this month, and was slightly below last month. The google ads have never paid much, our content just doesn't match up that well with their advertisers.

On my forum I have a paypal donation account setup. $3+ donations give those members a chatbox on the main page, access to hidden sections, a casino to waste $ they earn with each post, and a larger pm box. Just an idea.

I don't mind the ads. I would be happy to pay also.

I don't want a rainbow next to my name, even though according to my first two sentences I go both ways.

Considering what a magazine subscription costs a year and what you get out of it compared to this site, I'd say it's a bargain.

As long as it doesn't deter new people from signing up and growing in the sport, I'm in. This site and it's members save me thousands of dollars a year., well maybe not saves me but at lease directs me to spend it more wisely, lol. Why wouldn't I support it back.

btw, our hosting is $149/month plus domain and software fees, so over the course of a year it's around $2000-2100 maybe. (then of course I have to pay taxes on the ad revenue, so add 28% to that on the income side)

So, 200 people at $10/year would cover us completely. Anything beyond that is stickers/etc.

You would have to find a way that newbies could still join without paying because otherwise it might affect the future growth of the site.
I really don't even notice the ads anymore.

I donated 20 bucks once and never got a sticker or the thank you email. That kind of put me off a little.

But if it came down to it, I would pony up 10 a year.

10 bucks a year for quality ski help, ideas, information, and cheap entertainment. That is a good deal.

Alot of us use the site to sell our stuff too.

The site wouldn't change from what it looks like right now, just the ads would go away for 'subscribers'.

I'm not even sure how to set it up, though I know vbulletin has the feature for subscriptions. Just thinking outloud and getting a feel for things.

Personally, I think you should make it an even ten a month, keep nine for yourself...I'm sure this site is quite a headache for you (especially me, lol).

Go ahead people...:tomato::tomato::tomato: (LOLOL)

I think allowing extra features would be a great incentive. Access to a chat box would be great too. I wouldnt mind 10 a year, ill get it back in my savings interest in a month.
